About the team
This role is part of a Data Science team that supports the Capacity & Optimization function at TikTok USDS that is responsible for managing the computing resources that powers the TikTok platform. Key areas that our team focuses on include:
- Machine allocation and budgeting
- Resource optimization (compute, storage, network, etc.)
- Data center resiliency / Disaster recovery
Data is at the core of decision making within the Capacity & Optimization team. Resource management and optimization is a company-wide priority; the projects you work on will have high visibility and immediate impact. In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. Responsibilities
As a data scientist on the team, you will have the exciting opportunity to:
- Deep dive into data sources, develop metrics, and generate insights to direct strategy on resource management.
- Develop models and advanced analytical solutions to improve utilization rates and forecast future resource needs.
- Design and implement data-backed processes to ensure efficient machine allocation and reduce idle machine counts.
- Work cross-functionally with business leaders, finance teams, site-reliability engineers, and technical program managers.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of full-time experience using data to drive decision making and strategy.
- Experience with using SQL to interact with databases and perform analytics.
- Experience with Python (or similar language) for data exploration, modeling, and developing efficient data processing pipelines.
- Excellent problem-framing, problem-solving and project management skills. Comfortable with ambiguous asks and translating them to concrete plans.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, learn autonomously, and highly organized.
- Ability to conduct rigorous analysis and communicate conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Production software engineering experience.
- Previous experience or interest in learning about technical computing infrastructure.

Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $114000 - $240000 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
