Team Intro
The TikTok USDS Legal & Compliance team manages and oversees legal, privacy, and regulatory matters pertaining to TikTok USDS's operations. We collaborate cross-functionally and globally to address some of the most complex and intriguing issues in e-commerce, product development, and consumer protection. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to support our e-commerce and product teams. The Legal Counsel will play a crucial role in conducting legal reviews of e-commerce products and features, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and supporting the development of legal strategies that balance risk mitigation with business objectives.
In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with internal business clients to conduct thorough legal reviews of e-commerce and other products, features, and initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Serve as a USDS subject matter expert to TikTok's global teams, providing guidance to broader teams on a wide range of product developments, both front-end and back-end, including short-form mobile video products, live-streaming products, and related products.
- Collaborate with USDS and global colleagues to develop and implement legal strategies that help ensure compliance and mitigate risks while supporting business goals.
- Review proposed product integrations, new and updated features and services, and new applications and initiatives, to identify if they are in scope for USDS, and identify and coordinate mitigations and appropriate compliance controls and protections.
- Identify and address needs for training, guidelines, and playbooks to support USDS team and global colleagues.
- Contribute to building legal processes that foster simplicity, are scalable, mitigate risk, and allow product teams flexibility and freedom to move quickly.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a US state bar.
- 3+ years of experience in e-commerce and product counseling, with a focus on the technology industry.
- Proven track record in managing and advising complex e-commerce and product matters.
- Experience in an in-house legal department specializing in regulatory, consumer protection, and product matters.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong focus on compliance and ensuring commitments are honored.
- Familiarity with privacy and data protection principles is a plus.
- Proactive bias for action and ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects and prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $133000 - $228000 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
