Tax Accountant II
The Tax Accountant II is responsible for the calculation of tax liabilities, tax form preparation, and external filing/reporting. Under moderate supervision, this job is also responsible for tax research, compliance, analysis, and tax communications with federal and state agencies.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepares appropriate tax forms and instruments for filing with federal, state and local jurisdictions.
- Prepares and files tax payments on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as well as reconciling quarterly and annually.
- Reviews financial statements, expenses and previous tax returns to recommend the best strategy for completing future returns.
- Reconciles and maintains tax reporting on multi state and federal level while balancing with the general ledger to correct and discrepancies.

Overview of the Role
This is an interesting and varied role with a healthy balance of VAT technical compliance and advisory work. The successful applicant will work with various parts of the business at both corporate and fund finance level. Initial focus will be on UK affairs with scope to support and get involved with European and ROW once the UK role is established. The applicant will be supported by the VAT Manager and Head of Indirect Tax.
Key responsibilities will include:
Fund VAT
Working with the VAT Manager and Head of Indirect Tax:
- Manage the operational indirect taxation compliance for approximately 10 UK registered funds (portfolio allocation to be agreed and will be allocated based on level of experience). This involves working closely with our team of fund finance accountants who prepare the VAT returns using Avalara VAT reporting, providing a detailed technical review of each return and lodging returns to HM Revenue and Customs.
- Deal with day to day VAT queries and miscellaneous VAT matters with technical support from the rest of the Indirect Tax Team.
- Manage all related HMRC VAT inspections and other correspondence with HMRC for designated funds, with support.
- Actively work with 3rd party property managing agents to ensure best practice is maintained related to VAT matters.
- Support on indirect tax transaction advice as appropriate for each fund.
- Deal with Option to Tax applications.
- Support indirect tax training at fund level.
- Support operations and fund teams with CIS support and supplier verifications.
- Work with the Indirect Tax team to strong relationships with fund teams across the London office and longer term within Europe/ROW
- Monitoring MTD obligations.
- Other related indirect tax/CIS matters as agreed.
- Scope for European/Global indirect tax fund related advisory work once UK responsibilities are established.
- Support fund managers and the finance managers, in their relationship with various on and offshore third party suppliers both in respect of UK and European funds
Corporate VAT
- Duties to include:
- Preparation of quarterly Corporate VAT return. This may be outsourced in the future. Should this happen the candidate(s) will be required to assist with the day-to-day management of the outsourced provider.
- Support HOIT to enhance the control environment.
- Support regarding the corporate partial exemption special method. If avnew method is necessary be involved in modelling and drafting new method proposal with VAT Manaer and HOIT and advisors.
- Assistance with integration of newly acquired group.
- Working closely with member of the corporate finance team/operations team – allocation to be determined based on experience.
- Support indirect tax training roll out for corporate staff.
- Involvement in project work at corporate level as new processes and procedures are introduced in the business.
- Scope for European/Global indirect tax advisory work once UK responsibilities are established.
- Liaise with Corporate Finance to achieve business targets.
Technical Skills & Qualifications Required
- Commercial or practice experience necessary.
- Be able to manage multi-discipline projects and deliver against deadlines.
- Experience in a property and or property fund management environment is desirable but not essential.
- Good technical, accounting and systems skills.
- Confident in ability and robust character.
- Strong communication skills.
- This role requires thought, understanding of commercial drivers, people and task management capabilities and willingness to interact at all levels
