As an experienced and long-term investor, Nuveen, a TIAA company, has over $65bn in private capital with investment teams focused on various sub-asset classes within private credit, including private placements, middle market senior secured loans and mezzanine finance. Nuveen has a strong presence in the middle market, providing both senior and mezzanine financing primarily to private equity sponsor-backed companies to fund acquisitions, working capital, expansion, refinancing and recapitalizations. Additionally, Nuveen’s Leveraged Finance platform is one of the longest-tenured CLO managers dating back to 2005. The team has issued nearly 30 CLOs in this period and has strong risk-adjusted performance through a variety of market cycles.

The Alternative Credit Asset Class Specialist position is responsible for supporting the distribution of the firm’s private credit investment capabilities including middle market senior secured loans and mezzanine finance as well as CLOs across a range of investment vehicles. The Asset Class Specialist partners with Sales, Product, Marketing and Investments to best position Nuveen’s alternative credit capabilities with prospective and existing clients, primarily in the Institutional channel. The Asset Class Specialist is a subject matter expert, possessing deep familiarity of alternative credit, and of Nuveen’s investment strategies in related asset classes.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist in the growth and retention of Nuveen’s Alternative Credit assets

• Proactively partner with Sales teams to review client portfolios and identify prospective clients and opportunities

• Support Sales and Relationship Management teams with responses to specific questions about strategies and products, and general questions about capital markets and Alternatives

• Understand and be able to conduct detailed discussions on Alternatives and on the full range of Nuveen strategies and products in related asset classes

• Distinguish Nuveen’s Alternative Credit products/solutions from those of other competitors

• Serve as an expert point of contact for investment-related questions and coverage for prospective investors, clients, and salespeople

• Stay current on industry developments and Nuveen products

• Provide creative product and solutions ideas based on investor and client needs

• Leverage internal resources in order to drive and grow business activity

• Provide feedback from investors and clients to internal partners to inform new products and opportunities

Experience/Capabilities

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the investment management industry, selling and marketing alternative credit investment strategies to investors

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, four-year university; MBA, CFA or CAIA is a plus

• Knowledge of, and experience with alternative credit instruments across the capital structure

• Strong sales and client service orientation

• Ability to effectively communicate complex investment assets and strategies

• Strong written and verbal presentation skills

• Ability to partner effectively with individuals and teams across the organization

• Ability to establish and build strong working relationships with clients
