Reuters is seeking a social media editor who will play a key role in publishing Japanese-language content to various Reuters social media accounts, with the aim of growing the community of those interacting with Reuters Japanese-language news across social platforms and exploring revenue opportunities. The candidate must consistently identify the right stories for the social audience and post them in a smart, timely and accurate manner. He/she must also create compelling content for our target audience by translating English multimedia news, videos and graphics into Japanese, and publishing to our Japanese-language website.

In this highly collaborative role, the successful candidate for this position will work cross-functionally within the online team as well as with product, sales and business teams. He/she must work closely with the global social media team to learn and share advanced social technologies.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Social Media Editor, you will:

  • Ensure effective and timely posting of Japanese language content including articles, videos and graphics on various social networks.
  • Help produce Japanese-language multimedia content to be posted on social media.
  • Promote breaking news via social posts and periodically assist with live social coverage of events.
  • Develop expertise on Reuters social landscape and implement strategies to differentiate us from our competitors, in deep collaboration with Reuters.com's global social team.
  • Rewrite headlines and/or stories and edit content for consumer audiences, as necessary.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Social Media Editor if your background includes:

  • At least 3 years of experience in either a) marketing, sales promotion or public relations, or b) news media editorial role.
  • Experience in journalism is not essential, but you will need a solid understanding of various news subjects.
  • A record of managing corporate social media accounts and knowledge of how to create social assets (videos, GIFs, images) and visual content. Photo and video editing skills are a big plus.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, coupled with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to translate English language content to Japanese and the capacity to communicate in English.
  • Understanding of audience engagement metrics and best industry practices.
