We are looking for an experienced and inspirational photojournalist or picture editor to drive visual coverage of news across Europe - from the UK, Ireland, and Portugal in the west, to Turkey, Russia, and the CIS countries in the east.
Europe, where Reuters employs its largest regional team of photojournalists, is where many of the world's biggest news stories are happening today: the war in Ukraine; the growing impact of climate change; and the shifting political landscape.
The Europe picture editor will continue Reuters' successful One Visuals strategy of integrating Pictures and Video, with a global showcase for our coverage that includes the world's biggest digital and print news media. They will also work closely with colleagues from text to give our customers and consumers exemplary multimedia coverage.

About the Role
As our Europe Editor for Reuters Pictures, you will:
- Drive news coverage in Europe and ensure the file meets the needs of customers and consumers.
- Manage Reuters largest team of photographers in all matters related to editorial, hiring, motivation, performance
- Demonstrate commitment to the Reuters Trust Principles and ensure they are understood and adopted by the wider team.
- Ensure Reuters wins the region's biggest news stories.
- Support the in-depth, storytelling photojournalism of the Wider Image and Special Reports.
- Ensure the security and safety of the entire team.
- Be responsible for leading, motivating, and communicating with photographers in the region.
- Discover and foster talent, and promote diversity.
- Drive multimedia and cross-asset storytelling through collaboration.
- Have the ability to manage a budget and work with a variety of stakeholders, including the Global Editor, Reuters Pictures.
About You
To be our Europe Editor, you will likely have:
- Inspirational leadership and communications skills.
- Commitment to Reuters values.
- Understanding of safety and security issues.
- Outstanding news judgment.
- Understanding of the news pictures business and wider media industry.
- Strong people skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- An understanding of budgets and a track record of delivering on them.
- Minimum ten years of experience in the industry.
It's useful, but not essential if you also have:
- Experience working in hostile environments.
- A personal track record of award-winning photography either as photographer or editor.
- Experience working with multimedia elements.
