Reuters is looking for a talented and inspirational Chief Photographer to lead the news pictures file for the Greater China region. The Chief Photographer will work closely with colleagues from video and text to give our customers exemplary coverage of all aspects of China that are of interest to our media customers.

The successful candidate will also be fully conversant with all technical aspects of digital photography, picture editing and processing systems.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Chief Photographer Greater China, you will:

  • Give overall direction to visual news coverage in Greater China region and ensure the file meets customer needs and performance standards.
  • Ensure Reuters wins the region's biggest news stories. The chief photographer will also support the rich photojournalism of the Wider Image.
  • Ensure security and safety of the entire team is always a priority.
  • Promote diversity while discovering and fostering talent.
  • Lead, motivate, and communicate with bureau photographers to produce pictures and video.
  • Represent Reuters Pictures to sales teams and customers and ensure that client feedback is acted on
  • Be able to contribute to the management of global projects.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Chief Photographer Greater China if your background includes:

  • Minimum five years of experience in visual journalism
  • Must have an extensive track record of high-performance reporting on spot and initiative stories to Reuters standards and principles.
  • Excellent news judgment and in-depth knowledge of the pictures business and wider media industry
  • Experience leading a large team and a proven ability to create a high-performance culture by managing effectively, differentiating performance, developing talent, and building diverse teams. Can also lead and manage change.
  • An ability to implement new ways of storytelling and provide innovative thinking to deliver the story in the most effective way for clients. You must also demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness leading the day-to-day editorial operation.
  • Manage staff safety and career development, communicate editorial priorities, and set news coverage priorities
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing)
