The test engineer develops and conducts test programs for components and products. This employee also leads the development of test equipment and data acquisition systems for lab and field use. Assignments are broad in nature and usually include small as well as larger projects. He or she coordinates activities of test technicians assigned to projects, recommends changes in methods, design, or equipment, and performs other duties as assigned.

What Will You Do? 

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:  

  • Provide test support for product development design groups.

  • Design and conduct test programs to verify the specifications and validate the reliability of components and products.

  • Design, develop and/or specify test methods, fixtures and equipment.

  • Prepare, approve and maintain test procedures, forms and other data records.

  • Prepare test reports to communicate results, conclusions and recommendations.

  • Provide technical direction for personnel assigned to projects.

  • Meet or exceed typical expectations for creativity, production, work quality, and safety.

  • Provide test support for product development design groups.

  • Design and conduct test programs to verify the specifications and validate the reliability of components and products.

  • Design, develop and/or specify test methods, fixtures and equipment.

  • Office environment part of the time, Plant environment part of the time. The shop environment includes: variable temperature and humidity, noise, and dirt; Physical hazards such as powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, moving machinery, arc-welding and other electrical equipment, and high-voltage power supplies. Hazardous materials such as fuels, oils, grease, paint, solvents, coolant, pressurized gases, various acids and caustics, cleaners, and metals.

  • Occasional outdoor work in all kinds of weather. The outdoor environment includes: noise and dirt; Physical hazards such as powered vehicle, sharp objects, moving machinery, arc-welding, open trenches, and buried electrical and gas utilities; Hazardous materials such as fuels, oils, grease, paint, solvents, coolant, pressurized gases, various acids, cleaners, and metals.

  • A variable work schedule, with hours that vary according to the needs of the job. During emergencies or critical deadlines, this employee must work until the job is finished.

  • Rapidly changing workloads and priorities, multiple requests from numerous managers, and conflicting deadlines.

  • Prepare, approve and maintain test procedures, forms and other data records.
  • Prepare test reports to communicate results, conclusions and recommendations.

  • Provide technical direction for personnel assigned to projects.

  • Meet or exceed typical expectations for creativity, production, work quality, and safety.

What Do You Need? 

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:  

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or closely related engineering field.

  • Level 1, minimum of 0-2 years experience

  • Level II, minimum of 2 years of experience in similar field

  • Level III, minimum of 4 years experience in similar field

  • Level IV, minimum of 7 years experience in similar field

  • Level V, minimum of 10 years experience in similar field.

  • Background with significant mechanical and electromechanical experience.

  • Working knowledge of test specifications for components and systems.

  • Physical ability to travel to customer job sites and local test fields and inspect equipment in construction site situations, including rough terrain and inclement weather conditions.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well with others.

  • A good work record of self-motivation, judgment, and productivity.

Competitive Salary The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between ​$66900​ - ​$150000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
