What you'll do
It's safe to say, there's no shortage of variety in what we do. Here are some key accountabilities of the role:
- This position is accountable for providing leadership and setting long term department strategies for the Merchandise Payable function at TJX Canada. It ensures compliance with established accounting processes, financial controls, and ensures that the organization maintains a "AAA" credit rating.
- Develops long-term strategy (12 to 18 months), including systems, process, and workflow initiatives to support forecasted demand and establish resource allocation plans.
- Leads the development and preparation of monthly, annual, and long-range reporting, forecasting, budgeting processes.
- Responsible for ensuring department adheres to regulatory, financial controls, and reporting requirements; accountable for reviewing and ensuring accuracy of all department reporting.
- Oversees and provides leadership on payables analysis to identify gaps; develops strategies to improve processes and mitigate risk.
- Present budgets, forecasts and value-added analysis to Leadership team on a regular and timely basis; communicates key trends, observations, and business impacts.
- Develops and maintains effective collaborative relationships with external partners; ensuring accurate and timely payments to vendors, partnering on issues and escalations that arise.
- Collaborates closely with internal business partners (i.e., other areas of Finance, Merchandising, Planning, Supply Chain) to resolve issues identified related to purchases and shipments that impacts payment processing and vendor relationships; applies "trusted advisor" skills and techniques.
- Participates in department special projects and across TJX divisions as applicable; collaborates, understands, and applies best practices across Finance.
- Provides leadership, talent development, coaching, and imparts specialized knowledge to team in order to develop the talent pipeline and build a high performing team.
- Participates and contributes to the department talent strategy (to support a pipeline of functional capability for current and future needs of department); participates in talent development discussions and talent review calibrations.
- Provides leadership, direction, and guidance on department activities to team; reviews performance, provides continuous feedback, mentors, and trains team.
What you'll need
To begin your career with us, we require the following:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in accounting (and/or accounts payable); a minimum of five (5) years leadership (managing direct reports) experience.
- A post-secondary education in Business Management, Accounting/Finance; a related designation (ex: CPA) is considered an asset.
- Expertise in accounts payables (A/P), reconciliations and general accounting practices (GAAP, corporate cost Accounting procedures), with working knowledge of financial systems, business workflows, and supply chain.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to act as a collaborative partner and positively influence management, other Associates and team to act in the best interest of the organization.
- Excellent managerial skills including facilitation, negotiation, conflict management, time management, prioritization, change management, and sense of urgency.
- Strong consulting skills including the proven ability to procure and analyze a range of quantitative, qualitative information and use this in developing strategies, plans, and solutions; demonstrated ability to be resourceful, pragmatic, and solutions oriented.
- Demonstrated collaborative skills; the ability to develop highly effective working relationships by building credibility, respect and rapport with internal and external networks.
- Excellent people management skills including coaching, providing advice and guidance to Associates, evaluating performance, providing feedback, participating in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of Associates.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriately manage highly sensitive information.
- Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, Outlook); experience using software such as Power BI, Tableau, TM1, Hyperion, Oracle and Workday are considered assets.
Salary Range: $106,590 - $161,364 /year
This represents the expected hiring range and may not represent the full pay range for the position. The salary offered may be higher than the posted range depending on several factors such as relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.
