What you'll do

It's safe to say, there's no shortage of variety in what we do. Here are some key accountabilities of the role:

  • Process end to end occupational and non-occupational claims and accommodations that are temporary or permanent. Activities include related administration, decision-making facilitation, and record retention with internal and external partners (i.e. Human Resources departments and i.e. Insurance Carriers / Third Party Providers).
  • Develops appropriate medically-supported workplace accommodations for Associates with illness/injury, mental health, and or other disabilities within their own occupational or any occupation across the company. Implements work plans / agreements to ensure both a safe and sustainable return to work for Associates and cost effective disability management practices on behalf of the business. In developing work plans, apply an understanding TJX Canada's cross-functional physical/cognitive demands profiles, off-price business needs, TJX Canada policies, ergonomic principles, and relevant legislation.
  • Recommend, build, and amend complex work plans and intervention strategies for quick resolution.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively manage competing expectations, competing priorities and resistance, including accommodations that intersect both occupational and non-occupational injuries/illnesses.
  • Analyze and document accommodation options to meet both TJX Canada's substantive and procedural duty to accommodate and/or the duty to inquire.
  • Acts as "go-to" person by providing guidance and counsel to team members, ensures appropriate follow up, research, recommendations, and / or escalation for complex claims / accommodations, including Associates seeking accommodation through the talent acquisition process and the full employment life cycle, and Associates seeking remedy through Open Door process or legal action.
  • Accurately maintain and update in a timely manner the systems database and record retention for all related claims, in accordance with Company reporting needs and legislative governance, especially for potential hearings and legal action.
  • Monitor the service levels of relevant third-party vendors and offer feedback to ensure suitable accommodations and cost-effective disability management.
  • Recommend and facilitate third party assessments (i.e. independent medical examinations, functional abilities/capabilities evaluations, ergonomic assessments, ergonomic job coaching, job site analysis, physical / cognitive demands profiles etc.) and manage outcomes of those assessments.

What you'll need

To begin your career with us, we require the following:

  • Minimum five (5) years claims-related work experience, with solid understanding of return to work process; preferably within retail and/or distribution/warehouse environment (i.e. Distribution Centre)
  • Experienced with workers compensation, human rights legislation and short and long term disability practices
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; English/French bilingualism an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence business partners to help prioritize activities and resources to meet the organization needs, build rapport and credibility to be a trusted advisor, including strong interviewing, negotiating, listening, and information gathering skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to provide solutions; ability to leverage prior experience and adapt quickly to the changing work environment to make effective decisions, revise strategies to support the vision of the department
  • Strong problem solving skills including analysis of information to effectively resolve issues and implement solutions
  • Strong sense of confidentiality; requires discretion and thorough knowledge of the organization's operations, procedures and policies
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Salary Range: $74,753 - $104,654/year

This represents the expected hiring range and may not represent the full pay range for the position. The salary offered may be higher than the posted range depending on several factors such as relevant skills, qualifications, and experience
