Location/Division Specific Information:
Position will report to the Tewksbury, MA site and would support the CAD division. The Chemical Analysis Division (CAD) provides a diverse mix of analytical instruments and associated services to a broad range of end user markets including Safety & Security, Environmental, Food Safety, Energy, Mining, Life Science Manufacturing and Recycling, to name a few.

The Validation Technician II will assist with the day-to-day operations of the production team, perform routine calibrations of complex laboratory and/or production equipment following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). This position is a mid-level technician role and will work in a production validation environment to setup, validate, and modify portable X-ray based instruments. The instruments are a mix of new production units and customer owned units that require validation. In this role, you will learn to use high tech instruments, data acquisition systems, and standard industry software.
A Day in the Life:
- Work under general guidance to validate and test X-ray instruments manually and on robotic systems.
- Connect instruments to network based data systems to modify instrument parameters.
- Troubleshoot/resolve failing instruments to point of passing specifications.
- Generate specifications and documentation used to pass instrument checkpoints.
- Processing validation for multiple instruments at one time; the candidate must be able to multi-task.
- Indicate errors on work instructions and suggest changes to written work instructions.
- Proper preparation and handling of test samples.
- Participate in daily team stand-up meetings, communicating daily challenges and/or ideas.
- Participate in improvement events (such as Kaizen, 6S, Practical Process Improvement).
- Maintain a safe working environment and follow established 6S procedures.
- Assist in the development/execution of equipment calibration activities.
- Develop equipment calibration procedures, work instructions and templates.
Keys to Success:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- 2 years experience working in a regulated environement.
- Previous validation and calibration experience is a plus.
- Intermediate ability to troubleshoot repair, align and optimize precision equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Familiarity with portable instrumentation setup and validation.
- Understanding of periodic table of elements - basic level.
- Confidence in use of a computer to log, analyze, and manipulate data.
- Knowledgable of running automated or robotic manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to use software systems; small screen, iPhone/Android style operating systems.
- Ability to learn and master new technical ideas and concepts.
- Cross-training capability, and team-based thinking are highly valued.
- Capability to use math and simple calculations to review measured values against certified values.
- Ability to perform proper documentation of work, evaluation of out of tolerance results, oversight of vendor performed calibrations, and coordination of services.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Electronics manufacturing setting with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements including but not limited to: safety glasses protection and closed toed footwear.
- ISO9000 requirements including ESD and clean work area environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting required.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unaided.
