Are you ready to join us? We're exited to have you! We're looking for a highly skilled Tax & Accounting Manager for our team in Basel, Switzerland. It's a key role for us. You will lead local tax management and drive statutory compliance for Thermo Fisher Clinical Services GmbH, our fully owned Germany subsidiary based in Weil am Rhein. We will highly value your expertise and contributions, which will be instrumental in driving the integrity of our financial statements and the continuous improvement of our controls and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive compliance with German statutory and regulatory requirements, specifically focusing on accounting, taxes, duties, and financial reporting obligations.
  • Prepare and lead direct and indirect tax management, collaborating closely with the corporate tax team and maintaining direct contact with local authorities.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial reporting, including the translation from US to local GAAP (HGB) and the fulfillment of external audit requirements.
  • Handle and strengthen internal control systems in line with company policies and standards.
  • Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting processes, recommending and implementing improvement opportunities.
  • Provide support and work closely with the General Ledger accounting team, actively participating in monthly closing activities such as journal postings, data management, reconciliations, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with a broad range of colleagues from finance, accounting, and other departments at both local and global levels.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong background in tax and/or accounting, ideally including indirect tax, account reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
  • In-depth understanding of German statutory requirements (HGB), preferably with prior experience in direct interactions with governmental agencies.
  • Several years of experience across various tax or accounting roles, ideally in an international environment, combined with relevant academic qualifications.
  • Strong sense of personal accountability, excellent judgment, and ability to prioritize projects and time efficiently.
  • Ability to identify process and control gaps, and champion improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and ideally experience with accounting software such as Hyperion & Coda.
  • Proficient in English and ideally German.
