Job Description

The System Service Engineer (SSE) performs in-house planned maintenance, repairs and other verification/qualification services on a variety of innovative laboratory instruments in life science environment. The SSE engages with Thermo Fisher Scientific Commercial Customer Excellence Hub team (CCEH) and provides instrument services in a professional and timely manner. In addition, this band 5 will be coordinator within the team involving reporting out into the organization and mentoring peers.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides planned maintenance (PM), repair services.
  • Implements new New Product Introductions (NPIs).
  • Mentors and actively engages in improving work efficiency and productivity.
  • Displays professionalism, understanding, tact, fairness and technical knowledge.
  • Follows all reporting responsibilities.
  • Is familiar with and follow policies that pertain to the handling of spare parts: ordering, usage, returns, physical count, inventory management, etc.
  • Maintains their technical competency by attending trainings, staff meetings and remaining up to speed on new products, markets, customers and competitors.
  • Collaborates with internal partners to resolve customer issues and improve processes.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with management.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

Education Requirements:

Requires a bachelor degree in engineering or equivalent work experience and knowledge.

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written in English
  • Basic technical, electronics/mechanical knowledge
  • Affinity with mentoring others
  • Punctuality and organizational skills
  • Exercises sound logic and judgment setting work priorities
  • Ability to self-direct and requires minimal oversight
  • Participates as a positive influence to the team
  • Quickly adapts to change with positive and constructive feedback

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven record of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Aptitude for learning and understanding instruments, IT systems and processes
