Location/Division Specific Information

This role is located in Detroit, Michigan and part of BioProduction Group.

Responsible for leading equipment, facility, and utility maintenance operations. The role requires a commitment to meeting EHS, Quality, Delivery, and Financial targets as well as establishing operational objectives and priorities to meet short/ long term business goals. A day in the Life:

  • Lead a team of Maintenance Engineers across a 3-shift operation to service and maintain manufacturing and facilities equipment.
  • Evaluate and prioritize daily routine and emergency maintenance needs.
  • Establish and maintain the preventive maintenance and Calibration program for the facility.
  • Establish and implement plan to complete maintenance work orders by expected due dates.
  • Apply Problem Solving tools to identify root causes and corrective actions to reduce and mitigate breakdowns.
  • Subject matter authority for building Management System (BMS) and site Facilities support equipment to including all Manufacturing Equipment, WFI/USP Water, Boilers, Chillers, Compressed Air, HVAC, Fire Protection and Electrical Systems, among others.
  • Use Site Maintenance Management System to create and maintain monthly maintenance plans.
  • Lead all aspects regarding utility/mechanical/electrical contracts and external resources.
  • Contact and schedule outside vendors and contractors as needed with proper approval.
  • Ensure proper compliance with the sites Quality Policy as it pertains to Equipment and Facilities Maintenance.
  • Adhere to site safety procedures. Partner with EHS to maintain site LOTO program. Report near misses and apply proactive safety initiatives to mitigate injuries.
  • Lead investigations for maintenance related safety events.
  • Maintains a focus on continuous improvement helping improve equipment maintenance, safety, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Finance and EHS&S in the identification, definition and execution of Facilities and Manufacturing Equipment projects to improve workplace conditions.
  • Lead training initiatives for Maintenance Engineers based on their individual growth and development plans.
  • Facilitate communication activities and act as liaison between maintenance personnel and other Leaders at the site.
  • Secure resources to safely provide services not performed by internal labor. Coordinates schedules and activities minimizing business interruptions.
  • Respond to unplanned facility emergencies. This position provides support to the facility as needed outside of regularly scheduled work hours.

Keys to Success:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or higher is preferred.

Experience

  • 2-4 years of previous Supervisor experience
  • Previous experience working in a GMP environment.
  • Previous Facility Management experience.
  • Previous experience leading a Maintenance Team. Union experience is preferred.
  • Experience establishing and building relationships with vendors.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail required
  • Clear oral and written communication skills
  • Project Management Skills
  • Knowledge of computer applications and current software.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Work in a controlled manufacturing environment; is required to lift 25 lbs. repetitively and up to 65 pounds non-repetitively and may be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties.
  • Must be able to work safely with materials and equipment.
  • Expose to fumes and chemicals such as raw materials, cleaners, etc.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts*.
