Location/Division Specific Information

We are a research, development, and production site in Bremen currently, with about 500 employees, whose "high-end" measurement and analysis instruments (mass spectrometers) are used in research and science worldwide. Our innovative products in the fields of Life Sciences MS and Inorganic MS, as well as Trace Elemental Analysis, are among the leading products globally in their respective markets.

Join our international team of scientists, hardware and software engineers as a Mechanical Design Engineer for the next generation of life science mass spectrometers and their accessories. You will play a crucial role in developing mechanical components, contributing to a healthier, cleaner, and safer world. As part of our agile Life Science R&D department, we seek a highly experienced and motivated individual to take charge of the entire process, from ideation to design and the creation of production documentation, ensuring a successful transition to series production. We value experts who thrive in an innovative R&D environment and possess the ability to consistently translate new ideas into robust designs.

A day in the Life:

  • Design and development of complex mechanical parts (including assemblies for high vacuum and ion optical parts) in a highly motivated, multinational and interdisciplinary team in Bremen
  • Participation in product development teams and project planning
  • Preparation of production documentation and test procedures to ensure a smooth and timely transfer to series production
  • Installation and test of developed mechanical parts on mass spectrometers
  • On-the-bench and in-system design verification
  • Calculation of product and process costs
  • Technical support of suppliers and their qualification
  • Change Management (ECO) and Quality Control during product commercialization phase
  • Your tasks and responsibilities will be diverse and exciting, with the opportunity to participate in product development projects across multiple sites worldwide.

Keys to Success:
Education


  • University degree in mechanical engineering, or related fields

Experience

  • Many years of professional experience of designing high quality mechanical parts and assemblies, as part of complicated multi-component systems
  • Experience in Product Development Practices, Processes and Tools, preferably in the context of sophisticated analytical instruments
  • Extensive experience in 3-D solid modeling; SolidWorks preferred
  • Experience in low volume, high-value large complex systems such as scientific instrumentation, medical devices, or semiconductor process systems is highly preferred
  • Strong mechanical engineering background with in-depth knowledge of mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and materials
  • Experience with multiple manufacturing processes (i.e. casting, molding, machining, wire erosion etc.).
  • Experience in 'should cost' analysis of mechanical components and assemblies
  • Experience in lateral leadership desirable

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong desire to push the limits of science and technology
  • Working cost-conscious, effective, and autonomous
  • Good written and oral communication skills in German and English language
  • Good knowledge of Windows and Office programs
