Job Description

The Experience Design Center (XDC) is looking for a motivated and creative Product Design Engineering professional. This role is responsible for encouraging and developing and advancing next-generation electromechanical architectures for new product experiences and exploratory initiatives. The emphasis is on developing solutions centered around feasibility, functionality, and manufacturability. The professional candidate will work closely with internal teams, OEMs, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Join our dynamic, creative product development team, giving your expertise to the creation and refinement of innovative concepts throughout the product development cycle.
  • Lead meaningful priorities and project timelines to deliver quality products on time and to detailed specification.
  • Embrace standards of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Sustainability (DFS). Holistic product understanding, cradle-to-grave thinking to deliver feasible and readily manufacturable solutions with strong consideration of customer experience.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to design challenges-participating in constructive analysis, conceptualization, and prototyping of custom designs.
  • Optimally communicate technical information to a non-technical audience, showcasing concise and logical organization of thoughts.
  • Prepare, present, and participate in design reviews with colleagues and leadership professionally and comprehensively to external partners.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, both domestically and internationally.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field with quality experience of 10+ years in industry OR
  • A master's degree in stated fields or equivalent experience of 7+ years in industry
  • Preferred product experience in consumer tech, medical, bio-technology, and/or life sciences

Proficiencies and Knowledge:

  • Understanding and knowledge of user experience requirements that impact the development and design of electromechanical elements of consumer electronic and/or scientific products.
  • Tried knowledge and experience with materials, processes, and tooling associated with the design, manufacture, and assembly of plastic and metal parts, including: injection molding (traditional and RIM), thermoforming, extrusion, sheet metal forming, machining, and casting.
  • Proficiency with low to higher-volume manufacturing. Comfortable with sourcing, supply chain, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Lead product priorities with a focus on ensuring customer needs and user experience is implemented into the final engineering design.
  • Experience working with both internal and external manufacturing partners (CM, OEM, and JDM).
  • Experience collaborating with diverse product development teams.
  • Project and program leadership experience.
  • Shown experience working within each stage of NPI product development: from brainstorm ideation, conceptualization, prototyping, and production.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks and CREO preferred) and 2D drawings, including implementation of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018) and CTQ control.
  • Provide engineering guidance to research, user experience, and industrial design.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent XDC in a professional and thoughtful manner, both internally and externally. This includes clear interpersonal skills and a strong understanding of our industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite software, including MS Word and Excel, is required for this position.
  • Strong oral, written, and visual communication and presentation skills of both technical and non-technical information.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $149,500.00-$190,000.00.
