Thermo Fisher Scientific's Materials & Structural Analysis Division (MSD) supplies innovative solutions for microscopy and microanalysis. We provide SEMs, TEMs, and DualBeam™ FIB-SEMs combined with advanced software suites to take customers from questions to usable data by combining high-resolution imaging with physical, elemental, chemical, and electrical analysis across scales and modes - through the broadest sample types.

The Advanced Technology Group in Hillsboro is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Computational Scientist to join one of its dynamic research team to contribute to its pursuit of research and innovation in applications of scientific computing. This Computational Scientist must have demonstrated experience in numerical methods along with a strong computational physics background, and leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement computational models and simulations to analyze complex physical interactions.

• Develop and optimize algorithms for large-scale simulations, ensuring computational efficiency and accuracy.

• Analyze and interpret simulation data, providing insights and recommendations to improve system performance and reliability.

• Integrate data from multiple sources to refine models and enhance the accuracy of simulations.

• Prepare and present technical reports, research papers, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

• Lead and mentor junior team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

• Manage projects or sub-components of projects in alignment with the group's technology roadmap.

• Participate in the development of intellectual property, including invention disclosures and patent applications.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a related field.

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in computational physics

• Proven leadership experience, including projects and people management.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.

• Strong background in numerical methods, algorithms, and data analysis techniques.

• Experience with simulation software and tools commonly used in computational physics.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in developing simulations for complex physical systems.

• Familiarity with machine learning techniques and their application to computational physics.

• Experience with version control systems, collaborative software development, and continuous integration practices.

• Proven leadership experience, including project and people management.
