The position will focus on the broad and comprehensive portfolio of instruments and consumables solutions for molecular diagnostic testing. From manual to automated sample preparation of nucleic acids and applications for molecular diagnostics high throughput systems for cancer diagnostics, genetic disease analysis, biomarker discovery, and infectious disease testing. We are currently expanding our team supporting Molecular Diagnostics business and are seeking one Sr Manager and two Application Scientists to join our molecular diagnostic team. The candidates will be supporting the development of new and existing molecular diagnostic applications utilizing state of the art RNA and DNA technologies. The positions are permanent and will be based in our offices in Oslo, Norway.

Position Summary

As an R&D Senior Manager you will play a crucial role in driving innovation and identifying novel approaches to drive development and execution of new disruptive ideas within molecular diagnostics solutions. You will be a part of the Norway R&D leadership team and you will have the opportunity to lead and inspire a team of 2-4 scientists, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth mindset, and trust.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and cultivate interaction with customers and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)
  • Drive strategic cross-divisional/group projects and initiatives, Aim to Develop and implement innovative products
  • Lead and mentor a team of scientists, aligning their work with department plans and business priorities
  • Drive the development and implementation of effective working processes, continuously focusing on removing execution barriers and exploration of new technologies
  • Prioritize and plan projects, including project timelines, technology requirements, potential risks, and financial considerations.
  • Travel is expected, sometimes at short notice. Expect approx 20% travel over a year.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry (or a related field).
  • At least 3 years of working experience performing product development and/or laboratory research in an industrial setting or equivalent (Biotech/Life Science industry).
  • Strong background in molecular applications and diagnostic testing
  • At least to 2 years of experience in team management or performance evaluation role with a focus on people management, goal setting, and building successful teams
  • Hand-on experience in nucleic acid purification and applications (e.g. extraction, purification, amplifications, qPCR, NGS)
  • Experience with statistical analysis and/or Design of Experiments methodologies.
  • Able to understand the problems that our customers are trying to solve, understand the customer's current and future metrology requirements, and recommend new metrology opportunities to Thermo Fisher Scientific
