The job:

We are looking for an impactful Senior Director, Commercial Operations to lead our mid-tier Biopharma segment globally . The role sits within our Clinical Trials Division (CTD) and reports to the Vice President, Commercial Operations, CTD.

The successful candidate will meet our customer acquisition, sales and revenue growth objectives, building relationships and understanding customer trends. Using operational and quality metrics, you are responsible for monitoring our mid-tier Biopharma accounts globally. We believe that a successful commercial team makes connections with its customers and crafts long-lasting relationships. As the Senior Director of Commercial Operations, you will be responsible for making sure the entire team falls in line with that goal. You will be responsible for developing key growth sales strategies, tactics and action plans. Successful execution of these strategies is required to achieve your financial targets. You'll be leading a team of Sales Professionals (c.10 to 20 direct reports) that are responsible for our mid-size accounts Biopharma accounts and support new lead generation. We're looking for a self-starting professional with managerial experience and a consistent record in sales.

The role will be fully remote (working from home), based anywhere in the US. Regular international travel will be required (40-50% per annum), including frequent overnight stays. Candidates can be based anywhere in the US, close to an international airport and major transport links.

Division Specific Information:

Clinical Trials Division (CTD)as part of Thermo Fisher Scientific's Pharma Services Group (PSG) provides full service global clinical supply solutions to our customers including: Clinical manufacturing; Label design & packaging; Storage and distribution; and Reverse logistics and destruction. Our Commercial Operations team within CTD serves a critical role in meeting the needs of our customers and in helping us to achieve our mission as an organization.

What will you do?

  • Own and hit/exceed annual sales and revenue targets within the mid-tier Biopharma market
  • Develop and implement strategic plan to achieve sales and revenue targets and expand our Biopharma customer base
  • Identify potential Biopharma client targets and develop relationships in the region while growing awareness of our Clinical Trials business
  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships
  • Leverage wider PSG and Thermo Fisher capabilities with a focus on cross-selling
  • Empower and energize the staff to make proactive decisions in all their communications with clients
  • Assess the competitive landscape and institute changes to the commercial priorities in response to market dynamics
  • Establish a referral network within Thermo Fisher and the customer base and find ways to improve value from those connections
  • Partner with sales operations to implement a sales training and orientation program to educate new hires and ensure skill development for the entire team
  • Partner with customers to understand their business needs and objectives
  • Understand category-specific landscapes and trends
  • Reporting on forces that shift tactical budgets and strategic direction of accounts

Who we are looking for:

  • Degree Level or equivalent in a scientific subject, with MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years experience in sales management, ideally with experience of managing managers
  • Previous experience as a sales executive, sales manager or sales & marketing director, meeting or exceeding targets
  • Ability to lead a diverse global sales team
  • Ability to drive the sales process from plan to close
  • Knowledge of the new drug development process and in particular the processes of clinical materials supply chain management. This includes knowledge of planning techniques, manufacturing, packaging, storage and distribution technology and operations in GMP environments
  • Ability to communicate, present and influence at all levels of organization, including executive and C-level
  • Ability to articulate our differentiated value proposition and to position products against competitors
  • Excellent listening, communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English, additional languages welcome
  • Valid driving license
