Location/Division Specific Information

We are a research, development, and production site in Bremen, currently with about 500 employees, whose "high-end" measurement and analysis instruments (mass spectrometers) are used in research and science worldwide. Our innovative products in the fields of Life Sciences MS and Inorganic MS, as well as Trace Elemental Analysis, are among the leading products globally in their respective markets.

Discover Impactful Work:

As a member of an international, multidisciplinary project team of scientists, software developers, and engineers, you will develop system-level software for control, signal processing, and image processing for high-performance electron microscopes and mass spectrometers. You will focus on technological development in the research phase as well as on the transition into product development. The position provides the opportunity to advance your career as the team expands during the product development phase.

A day in the Life:

  • Discuss emerging project challenges in an interdisciplinary project team and derive software solutions that enable the team to work efficiently and purposefully on next generation technology
  • Implement algorithms and interfaces for instrument control, electronics components, and external devices in C#, Python, and occasionally C++, aiming for high-quality and reliable code
  • Use your technical skills and creativity to find appropriate solutions that fit into the overall system and software architecture
  • Review, adapt, and extend the existing system and software architecture to support the transition from research into product development
  • Support setting up requirements in the research phase of the project and participate in project and product definitions
  • Optimize code, processes, and workflows by using benchmark tests, dynamic analysis, and profiling tools
  • Maintain documentation of your work and identify novel technological aspects to preserve and foster the intellectual property of the company
  • Actively participate in design discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement of the existing code base

Keys to Success:
Education


  • University degree in computer science, natural sciences, engineering, or related fields

Experience

  • Several years of experience developing software for scientific or technical projects either in industry or academic setting, applying software design patterns in a high-level, general-purpose programming language, such as C#, Python, or C++
  • Proven expertise in image processing, particularly in integrating and applying artificial intelligence techniques to enhance and optimize visual data analysis
  • Experience in embedded software development using multithreading is a plus
  • Experience with software development processes and related tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, git)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong software design skills and profound knowledge of data structures and algorithms
  • Experience coding in C#/.NET under Windows is an asset
  • Strong interest in working scientifically and feeling comfortable opening new paths
  • Proficiency in clean coding and software testing (e.g., unit testing, hardware-in-the-loop simulation)
  • Experience with MS or EM is very desirable
  • Proficiency in basic SQL database programming and experience with Blazor web development are advantageous
  • Strong analytical thinking, can-do attitude, problem-solving mentality
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, fluent in English
  • German language skills are not required, but there should be an interest to learn German
  • Traveling will occasionally be required
