Location/Division Specific Information
We are a research, development, and production site in Bremen, currently with about 500 employees, whose "high-end" measurement and analysis instruments (mass spectrometers) are used in research and science worldwide. Our innovative products in the fields of Life Sciences MS and Inorganic MS, as
well as Trace Elemental Analysis, are among the leading products globally in their respective markets.

A Day in the Life:


  • Complete data engineering tasks for the development of scientific algorithms.
  • Research and develop both stochastic and deterministic solutions for optical and mass spectrometric instrumentation.
  • Prototype and implement machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) models.
  • Differentiate and define the requirements for proof-of-concept (POC) versus production-ready solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D scientists and domain experts during experimental and data collection phases.
  • Collaborate with software architects and engineers to support the integration of research software into products, aiding the transition process.
  • Engage with other ML/AI teams across the company to share knowledge and strategies.
  • Process and prepare scientific findings for publication in symposia or conferences.
  • Work closely with the Intellectual Property (IP) partners, actively contributing to the generation of new inventions and supporting freedom-to-operate searches and infringement assessments.

Keys to Success:
  • Strong foundation in image/sensor readback processing.
  • Profound software development experience, with at least 2+ years in a production environment.
  • Some years of algorithm development in an R&D environment.
  • Knowledge of electronic engineering, particularly in sensors and telemetry, SW and HW integration, is a plus.
  • Curiosity for AI and ML technologies and passion for driving R&D innovation.
  • Proficiency in Python and at least one additional programming language (e.g. C++).
  • Experience working with Windows, Linux, and various programming environments.
  • Proficiency in using Git for version control.
  • Experience with Docker, GPU servers, and ONNX Runtime.
  • Understanding of multi-threaded and multi-processor software architectures.
  • Knowledge of design patterns and object-oriented programming.
  • Familiarity with AI techniques and algorithms, including deep learning, CNNs, RNNs, decision trees, clustering, ensembles, etc., and/or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar.
  • Knowledge of the AWS technology stack.
  • Dedication to continuous learning and staying ahead of AI/ML advancements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present scientific results and collaborate within a team of scientists.
