Position Summary:
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is looking for an experienced Technical Sourcing Engineering leader to fill an open role as the Sr Manager, PCBA CoE. The PCBA Center of Excellence mission is providing proactive PCBA healthcare services including Component lifecycle and supply chain risk assessment, identification and implementation of alternates w/preferred suppliers, and facilitation of design changes into manufacturing that allow business unit engineering resources to focus on innovation. In this role, you will work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering leadership in multiple businesses and divisions to establish governance and technical project definition and execution to achieve the risk mitigation and target cost reduction goals of the PCBA CoE.

Locations: Bremen, Germany; Brno, Czech Republic; Germering, Germany; Eindhoven, Netherlands

What you will do:

  • Lead a team of Electrical engineers in Europe and the U.S. in alternate component selection and PCBA redesign projects requiring validation in Thermo Fisher factories and Suppliers.
  • Facilitate a program of Value Analysis and Value Engineering sessions, onsite, with Business unit procurement and engineering leaders and Suppliers.
  • Generate & maintain a multiyear technical project pipeline to achieve Productivity Savings.
  • Define objectives, goals, and critical metrics, with the PCBA CoE leadership team and cascade goals to colleagues to achieve group objectives.
  • Support EMS Category Management in technical RFQ analysis and VAVE conceptualization related to PCBA redesign, platform consolidation, and supplier manufacturing & test efficiency.
  • Convey divisional design requirements to and use the Indian Engineering Center PCBA CoE team to bring design, testing, and lifecycle management resources aligned to Divisional priorities within local sites via established governance model.

What you must have:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or Physics.
  • 8 years shown experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment required.
  • 4+ years leading engineering teams.
  • Experience in either: PCBA manufacturing, PCBA design, Electrical component engineering, Electromechanical component design, Electromechanical assembly design, Power management, or Electrical systems and controls design.
  • Ability to read audiences and adjust style to gain alignment and support.
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity, multitask, and empower collaborative change.
  • Validated ability to develop and communicate technical projects with respect to Business value definition, options, NPV, return on investment, and high-level project planning.
  • Skilled in spend analysis, and problem-solving abilities using tools and frameworks.
  • 6Sigma LEAN green belt training.
  • Experience working on/in multi-disciplined technical or new product introduction teams.
  • A well-rounded problem solver who can identify global standard processes and integrate them to optimal benefit by achieving rapid alignment and adoption via standard work.
  • Great communicator, including written, oral, and presentation skills up to Director/VP level.
  • Ability to positive establish relationships and influence business leaders.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and other basic computer applications required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree.
  • PCBA Design, Hardware, Firmware experience.
  • Experience in or support of a procurement organization
  • Certification as a 6Sigma LEAN green belt or higher.
  • Proficiency in Design for Cost and Should Cost modeling software.
  • Experience working with Tier 1 and 2 electronics Manufacturing Services suppliers.
  • eCAD layout experience, component management and design tools like Altium.
  • Understanding of phase gate development processes and methodologies.
  • Experience facilitating engineering changes through workflow Product Lifecycle Management systems.
  • Experience with devices regulated by third party agencies in the medical and electrical industrial products industries.

Travel: 30% travel between Thermo Fisher Scientific sites in Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic, and EMS Suppliers in the E.U. Semiannual travel to the U.S.A.
