Laboratory Informatics Specialist

Discover Impactful Work! We are looking for a meticulous Laboratory Informatics Specialist to join our Cell Biology team. They will gather requirements to configure an electronic lab notebook (ELN) software, collaborate with biologists and chemists to enter data, and implement improvements. They will ensure a smooth and efficient experience for our chemists, formulation scientists, and biological screening teams when recording experimental results. The Specialist will also prepare data for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications to support compound and formulation development. AI/ML direct experience is a plus.

A Day in the Life.

  • Collaborate closely with scientists and other collaborators to capture requirements and understand their workflow needs. Configure and customize ELN software to meet the specific needs of various scientific disciplines within the organization. Collaborate with R&D, IT, and other groups to ensure seamless integration of the ELN system with other enterprise systems.
  • Deliver training sessions and ongoing support to scientists and other users to ensure proficient use of the ELN system. Assist scientists in preparing and entering experimental data accurately and efficiently into the ELN system. Partner with scientists to secure, scrub, and import data from prior experiments into the ELN system.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, user guides, and training materials. Coordinate license deployment and platform upgrades. Ensure that all data entry and system configurations align with relevant regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Find opportunities for process improvements and implement enhancements to the ELN system to improve efficiency and user satisfaction. Partner with IT and the ELN developer to implement improvements.
  • Apply data from the ELN system for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications to support the development of new compounds and formulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in chemistry, biology, science-focused information technology, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory environment with a Bachelors; or Masters with 3 years; or relevant PhD. With at least 2 years of experience supporting or implementing ELN systems, preferably Labguru.
  • Proficiency in configuring and customizing cloud-based ELN software, preferably Labguru.
  • Familiarity with data management and laboratory workflows.
  • Experience in applying experimental data for AI and ML applications to develop new compounds and formulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively train and support users.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and system configuration.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a geographically distributed, multidisciplinary team and handle multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with other laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and statistical software (e.g. Jmp), particularly for collecting and analyzing biological data.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to electronic records and data integrity (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 11).
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools and techniques, such as Python, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks.
