Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Support the M&D Team Leader: Assist in delivering departmental critical metrics, including safety, quality, delivery, cost, and process improvements.

Tier meeting: In the absence of the team leader, able support the senior chemists critical metric information or leading the tier 1 or reporting out in tier 2.

Compliance: Perform all work in strict compliance with corporate, legal, and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.

Adherence to Policies: Align with the environmental EMS (ISO 14001) and quality QMS (ISO 9001) policies and procedures.

EHS Audits & Reporting: Ensure the team conducts EHS audits and completes Intelex reporting in a timely manner.

Safety Leadership: Lead efforts to maintain a safe lab environment and encourage the team to achieve the same.

SOPs & Training: Support the team leader in maintaining departmental SOPs, WIs, SWS, SPL, and the training matrix. Ensure all team members are fully trained and have completed all required training.

Audit Participation: Participate in internal and external audits.

Hands-on Production Chemistry: Actively engage in practical production chemistry, including the development and improvement of chemical processes.

Collaboration with Manufacturing Planner: Work closely with the manufacturing planner to deliver products to customers on time and in full (OTIF), in alignment with the production pipeline planning tool.

Analytical Interpretation: Interpret analytical results and make appropriate processing decisions based on these results.

Record Keeping: Maintain written records of work carried out in accordance with laboratory procedures, such as bench book write-ups, SWS, and BMIRs.

Report Interpretation: Interpret the OOR report and raise any late back orders to the team leader.

Absorption Target Tracking: Understand monthly manufacturing absorption targets and monitor project execution progress. Communicate any variations to the team leader.

Material Management: Work closely with the planner to reserve raw materials for projects, transfer them to manufacturing, and down-date used raw materials to maintain accurate JDE stock levels.

PO Generation: Generate departmental purchase orders.

Continuous Improvement: Develop and improve existing chemical processes to increase efficiency.

GEMBA and Kaizen Participation: Encourage the team to participate in GEMBA and Kaizen events.

PPI Initiatives: Lead PPI initiatives within the department and participate in cross-site initiatives.

Housekeeping & 5S Standards: Maintain housekeeping and implement 5S standards in the laboratories.

Communication: Use Tier 1 meetings to keep colleagues informed by regularly reporting progress.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with staff both within the department and across functional teams.

Qualifications and Skills:

Degree in Chemistry or related field.

Experience in organic synthesis and production chemistry.

Strong understanding of EHS, EMS, and QMS policies and procedures.

Excellent leadership and team coordination skills.

Proficiency in analytical techniques and data interpretation.

Effective communication and record-keeping abilities.

Dedication to continuous improvement and safety standards.
