The Special Allergen Service_Antibodies group at Thermo Fisher Scientific belongs to the R&D Allergy department within the Immunodiagnostic division of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The ImmunoDiagnostics Division in Uppsala, Sweden has around 1600 employees worldwide and is market leader within diagnostic tests for allergy diseases. We have our headquarter in Uppsala where we also have our research and development as well as manufacturing for all our allergy diagnostic products. The Special Allergen Service Antibodies group develops and produce, research use specific IgE tests and has also responsibility for antibodies developed for Thermo Fisher Scientifics allergy diagnostics products.

A day in the Life:

  • Maintain and cultivate cell lines with mostly mouse hybridoma cells (but also yeast and bacteria cells can be used) to generate antibodies and recombinant proteins in support of research projects.
  • Analyze antibodies using techniques such as ELISA and Biacore to assess their efficacy and contribute to the development of new diagnostic tests.
  • Take ownership for the department's antibody stocks, including cell banks and purified proteins, ensuring their accuracy, availability, and proper storage.

Keys to Success:

To excel in this role, you should have an outstanding attention to detail, flawless organizational skills, and the ability to efficiently implement accurate and orderly processes.

Education

  • Master of Science degree, or equivalent work experience, in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology or equivalent.

Experience

  • Extensive prior experience with sterile cell culture (mouse and/or human cells).
  • Experience in analyzing antibodies using techniques such as ELISA and Biacore.
  • Experience handling department/company stocks, including cell banks and purified proteins is a merit.
  • Experience in diagnostic test development and recombinant protein expression is a merit.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong understanding of sterile cell culture techniques.
  • Proficiency in analyzing antibodies using ELISA and Biacore.
  • Ability to take ownership of department antibody stocks and ensure their accuracy and availability.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English; basic understanding of Swedish is an advantage

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

This role requires you to work in a laboratory setting, adhering closely to safety protocols. You should be able to work with hazardous materials and be able to stand for periods.
