Job Description
The XDB R&D Semiconductor group, part of Material and Structural Analysis division of Thermo Fisher Scientific, focuses on developing microscopy solutions for semiconductor customers, such as Focused Ion Beam (FIB) and Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM). Development of (automation) software and system hardware takes place in Brno, Czech Republic and Hillsboro, Oregon, United States. This role is based in Brno and regular travel to Hillsboro is expected to interconnect global teams.
Position
As Process Architect you will join an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team. In this role, you will act as a technical leader focusing on designing, developing, integrating and fine-tuning the automation processes running on our small and large dual-beam systems. The demanding processes are aimed at creating thin samples with high reliability and yield while maintaining high throughput and quality parameters.

Close collaboration with Product and Marketing Managers and System/Software Architects is needed to ensure that the designed automation process is performing to customer expectations. Through interaction with the development teams, vital quality levels should be achieved through continuous improvements. This role reports directly to the Sr Manager R&D XDB Architecture.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Be accountable for the development of automated processes for dual beam products as part of our innovation strategy
- Translate application and customer needs into process requirements
- Handover of fully characterized and well documented process to production within technology projects and continuous production support for problem solving
- Specify equipment requirements in close cooperation with system and software architects
- Conduct analysis and optimization of process parameters to improve quality and efficiency using tools such as SPC, FMEA, APC, 8D, Six Sigma and DoE
- Define the process automation roadmap with fellow technical leaders
- Proactively manage and align with stakeholders from Business Unit and R&D
Qualifications
- University Degree in System, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Physics, Software Engineering, Mathematics or related field
- 7-10 years of work experience in a R&D or Engineering environment, preferably in a high-tech or semiconductor sector
- Theoretical background and experience with modeling, statistical analysis, DfSS, reliability analysis
- Experience with developing (automation) processes in highly complex machines or systems
- Ability to build consensus among internal and external project collaborators
- Strong written and verbal communication skills due to the multi-functional nature of this role
- Proficient in English language (verbal and in writing)
