Discover Impactful Work:
- Works collaboratively with government institutions to set project priorities.
- Makes high-level decisions about the overall project direction and works closely with government institutions officials to approve resources.
- Formulates major overall project policies as it relates to research across all phases of the project and advises the highest levels of government institutions leadership in major areas of importance for overall project direction.
- Collaborates with representatives from government institutions as appropriate.
- Provides team oversight.
- Primary point of contact in support of government institutions needs, escalations, and tracking.
- Provides scientific/technical support to the Project Manager to ensure contract compliance throughout the life of the contract.
- Responsible for contract deliverables.
- Drives overall delivery of the project through cross-functional project leadership and ensuring clear communication pathways.
- Drives the risk mitigation process and timeline management.
Keys to Success:
Education:
- A doctoral degree (M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent) in biological, health or life sciences
Experience:
- Previous government research experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 20+ years).
In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Recognized leader and expert in a field relevant to basic, translational and clinical research for infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases.
- Ability to lead staff, including an outstanding ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
- Experience supporting new and in-progress research projects, program deployment and implementation.
- Demonstrated effective leadership abilities, and excellent communication skills with the ability to serve as a spokesperson for government institutions and the project, including on sensitive ethical issues.
- Currently has or the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.
- Occasional travel locally and internationally
- Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day. Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
- Frequent mobility is required.
- Occasional crouching, stooping, bending, and twisting of upper body and neck.
- Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moving) objects including luggage and laptop computers with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
- Ability to access and use various computer software developed in-house and off-the-shelf.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups.
- Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Requires multiple periods of intense concentration.
- Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.
