Summarized Purpose:

The Principal Strategic Analytics Analyst delivers insights on the marketplace to Commercial teams to enhance selling processes. The Principal Analyst will perform regular research and analysis, translate data and information into intelligence that can support enhanced decision-making, and identify key insights that create a competitive advantage for ThermoFisher's Clinical Research offerings.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze data on compounds and trials to understand the competitive trial landscape, prospective selling opportunities, and identify insights to inform value propositions.
  • Perform market research across key indications, therapeutic areas and customers.
  • Build and maintain addressable market size models to support annual planning processes.
  • Analyze market dynamics and trends in the clinical development space to determine implications, both operationally and strategically, and update sales and senior management on news relevant to customers or potential customers.
  • Evaluate sources of information for relevance, dependability, accuracy and overall cost effectiveness. Identify and evaluate new secondary data sources to contribute to departmental and company objectives, as well as novel ways of analyzing data, and drive resulting process improvement initiatives.
  • Support Commercial teams on key opportunities by delivering meaningful intelligence, as needed (e.g., market context, competitive trials, market potential).
  • Perform ad hoc analyses as required to support projects involving marketing, strategy, and corporate development (e.g., ROI analysis, business cases).

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification. MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years') or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
  • Experience working in business analytics, market research, business strategy or competitive intelligence, and a strong analytical mindset.

Years of experience refers to typical years of related experience needed to gain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. Years of experience are not to be used as the only determining factor in establishing the job class or making employment selection decisions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional analytical and Microsoft Excel skills
  • Very strong writing and presentation skills, including PowerPoint development abilities
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills to convey key messaging
  • Business acumen with the ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously mixing long term projects with the urgency of immediate demands
  • Ability to conduct research and effectively synthesize data
  • Very strong information sourcing skills required with the ability to filter through myriad data repositories to contextualize viable business opportunities based on a solid understanding of key service offerings
  • Ability to source and mine relevant content from external data vendors, internal systems (e.g., Salesforce), etc.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with all levels of the organization and work effectively with multiple groups / departments
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid understanding of clinical trial development and specific disease areas is preferred, but not necessary
