Position Summary
The Senior Manager of NPI (New Product Introduction) Technical Sourcing Engineering will lead a team responsible for aligning sourcing strategies with product development and engineering goals. This role bridges R&D, Procurement, and Operations to drive technical sourcing decisions that optimize cost, quality, and manufacturability. The successful candidate will ensure that the technical supply chain supports new product timelines and business objectives while encouraging strong supplier partnerships.

- Develop and implement technical sourcing strategies to support NPI programs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Manufacturing, and Procurement, to align technical requirements with supplier capabilities.
- Champion Design for Excellence (DFX) & Value Assurance Value Engineering (VAVE) principles, focusing on cost, quality, manufacturability, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with the NPI community to develop technology roadmaps that anticipate future needs. Facilitate technology scouting and supplier technology sharing forums to address those needs.
- Develop strong partnering relationships with the Engineering, Technology, and R&D community, as well as with the category teams, manufacturing facilities, and management.
Supplier Management
- Identify and onboard suppliers with the technical capabilities required for NPI projects.
- Support Category Leads if driving supplier performance in cost optimization, innovation, and compliance with technical requirements is needed.
- Hold team members to develop a detailed source plan for all NPI projects as part of the product commercialization process and lifecycle management process.
- Ensure PPI (Practical Process Improvement) through the development of standard work and detailed processes for how we select, engage, and manage suppliers through the NPI lifecycle.
Program Management
- Lead the sourcing engineering aspect of NPI projects from concept to production readiness.
- Establish and track critical metrics for supplier contributions to NPI programs, such as lead times, quality, and cost savings.
- Collaborate with core team to ensure smooth transitions from prototype to mass production.
- Collaborate with category management and COE offshore teams to ensure sourcing decisions and actions align with the program plan and are efficient.
- Lead 'make versus buy' assessments to ensure timely and effective decisions early in the new product lifecycle, and consistent with manufacturing and sourcing strategies.
Cost Management and Analytics
- Coordinate the development of Should Cost models and Target Costing methodologies for new products.
- Collaborate with the Procurement team to negotiate supplier agreements that meet cost and technical objectives.
Team Leadership
- Build and mentor a team of global sourcing engineers to support NPI initiatives.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Develop roll up metrics across the entire NPI team to track the performance of the team vs objectives and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide technical training and mentorship on sourcing strategies and supplier engagement.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
8+ years of experience in R&D, manufacturing, technical sourcing, supply chain management, or related fields, with a strong focus on NPI.
Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing supplier relationships.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Cost (DFC), and other DFX fields.
- Familiarity with CAD software, BOM management tools, and sourcing analytics platforms.
- Strong understanding of new product introduction processes.
- Solid understanding of standard methodologies for supplier engagement/management.
- Working understanding of electrical, mechanical, biological, and chemical manufacturing industry processes, capabilities, and supplier base.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical abilities and critical thinking.
- Ability to prioritize and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
Travel Requirements: 10-20%, including supplier visits and project meetings.
