Position Summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic to join the team as the Manager - Packaging Engineering! Direct a team of packaging engineers supporting Operations, New Product Introductions and Customers. In this role you will have a great opportunity to engage in team and individual employee development. In addition, this role will collaborate in developing packaging designs to meet customer requirements, identify and facilitate cost-saving projects throughout the plant. As a part of this team we strive to collaborate with multi-functional teams at our Grand Island, NY location to create efficient processes that ensures exceptional customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead, develop and empower a team.
  • Possess excellent communication, both verbal and written, able to educate colleagues and customers on packaging offerings, improvement opportunities, and standard processes. Including proficiency in communicating clearly and concisely to large groups and/ or management.
  • Work with the team and independently using knowledge of current package designs, materials, industry requirements, and processes to drive revenue growth, cost savings, and efficiency gains that consider customer and plant requirements.
  • Demonstrate excellent follow-through both with daily workload and long-term projects, operating autonomously with minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrate packaging knowledge through building prototypes, testing, and validation of the developed design for customer approval and manufacturability.
  • Have solid understanding of 3D modeling software, such as Artios or AutoCAD with the ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Support and/or drive productivity initiatives on packaging by working with the suppliers, procurement, and manufacturing teams.
  • Issue primary packaging feasibility assessments on Custom Cell Culture products.
  • Packaging engineers have frequent interactions with internal and external customers, sales representatives, product managers and business development professionals on current and new packaging opportunities.
  • Support and engage in the transfer of designs, ideas and standard processes to associated manufacturing sites and networks.
  • Align with all company safety, quality, and training procedures and regulations.
  • Report all non-compliance and support, engage in, and potentially lead teams assigned to making improvements.
  • Effectively lead projects as assigned. Plan, perform and evaluate experiments as needed.
  • Implement practical process improvements to improve turn-around times inquiries, documentation and record creation.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering required.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and social skills are required to successfully communicate with team members and collaborate with various departments such as Operations, R&D, Product Management, and the Commercial team.
  • Strong analytical ability including the ability to effectively use data in problem-solving and to evaluate process changes and impacts.
  • Experience working with external customers on their customization needs, requirements gathering, problem-solving, and collaboration to meet their requests.
  • Shown capacity for effective leadership, encompassing the utilization of diverse resources, swift responsiveness to changes, comprehensive understanding of decision outcomes, cultivation of collaborative connections, and unwavering focus on customer requirements.
  • Strong people leader with experience leading and able to function optimally in a matrix environment.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $84,400.00-$126,550.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
