General Summary:

The Facilities Manager role at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. offers an unparalleled opportunity to lead and enhance our facility and utility operations. The role will advise and coordinate the operation, maintenance, and repair activities of production equipment and facility systems. The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the sites Preventive Maintenance Program as well as Building and Maintenance Management Systems. Functions:

  • Adhere rigorously to site safety procedures and employ safety equipment. The ability to detail Near Miss reports, safety opportunities, and accident reports is essential.
  • Focus on improving equipment maintenance, safety, efficiency, and throughput.
  • Be responsible for utility, mechanical, electrical contracts, and external resources.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Finance, and EHS&S departments to identify, define, and complete Facilities projects that improve workplace conditions.
  • Maintain a safe and balanced environment for all personnel.
  • Serve as a subject matter authority for Building Management Systems (BMS) and site Facilities support equipment, including WFI/USP Water, Boilers, Chillers, Compressed Air, HVAC, Fire Protection, and Electrical Systems.
  • Evaluate and prioritize daily routine and emergency maintenance needs.
  • Contact and schedule outside vendors and contractors as needed, ensuring accurate approval.
  • Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance program for the facility.
  • Ensure reliable and efficient operations of all facility and utility systems, as well as manufacturing equipment.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality assurance personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
  • Secure resources to safely provide services not performed by internal labor and coordinate schedules and activities to minimize business interruptions.
  • Respond to unplanned facility emergencies, providing support as needed outside of regularly scheduled work hours.

General - Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Work in a controlled manufacturing environment. Lift 25 lbs. repetitively and up to 65 lbs. non-repetitively. Stand for long periods of time while performing duties.
  • Work safely with materials and equipment.
  • Exposure to fumes and chemicals such as raw materials, cleaners, etc.
  • Work overtime and flexible shifts as needed.
  • Different levels of gowning required.
  • Some overtime required with prior notice to support business needs. Emergency overtime may be required with little notice to ensure operational objectives.

Knowledge and Experience

  • General understanding of machinery and mechanics is required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and current software.
  • High school diploma with 4+ years of facilities/engineering experience with similar equipment and experience leading a team. Associate degree preferred.

Technical Proficiencies:

  • Must possess exceptional skills to improve efficiency, flexibility, and solving thinking to successfully complete assignments.
