The role of Legal Counsel is to collaborate with Thermo Fisher Scientific's SEAT businesses in negotiating and drafting commercial contracts (including terms and conditions of product sales and purchase), service, marketing, distribution, license, development, consulting, government, and OEM agreements.

This is a fantastic opportunity where you will be exposed to varied and exciting matters and be a part of a high performing, collaborative team. This is a full -time permanent role, ideally based in Malaysia.

What will you do?
You will be involved in a range of varied and complex responsibilities. Day to day tasks are inclusive but not limited to:

  • Advising on and supporting commercial contracts, proposals, RFPs/RFQs, distribution contracts, procurement contracts
  • Supporting, mentoring junior legal/contracts team members
  • Advising on a range of legal, compliance and regulatory matters, including government contracts, marketing, competition law, anti-bribery, fraud and abuse, products liability, data privacy and due diligence;
  • Supporting and resolving customer, supplier and other commercial disputes;
  • Monitoring and managing legal, compliance and risk, including reviewing policies and procedures, and delivering training programs across the region;
  • Providing legal support to SEAT's marketing, communications, procurement and e-commerce functions and marketing collateral, customer communications and proposals, and sensitive corporate communications
  • Supporting cross-functional projects and initiatives across the region.
  • Providing training to the SEAT organization on a range of matters, including commercial contracts, product liability issues, government contracts, anti-bribery, marketing and other compliance matters

Together with this you will have:

  • Bachelor of Law Degree required and registered to practice law in Malaysia
  • 7+ years post-qualification experience, with superior commercial contracts drafting and negotiation capabilities
  • Experience in cross border transactions and solving regional legal issues
  • A mix of top-tier and MNC in-house experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in some of the following legal and compliance areas: government contracts, competition law, marketing, anti-bribery, products liability and data privacy
  • Capable of managing large and small scale legal matters and projects
  • Proven negotiation, research and analytical skills
  • Ability to apply technical skills in a commercial context to reach solutions
  • Experience with supporting a business in a regulated industry such as medical device manufacturing, pharmaceutical or hospital is desirable but not required.
