Job Description

Lead Material Handler

Day Shift Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm

Responsible for ensuring that the daily requirements for the manufacture of cell culture media and reagents are met and that performance expectations are achieved on a constant basis. To coordinate and perform warehousing duties across goods receiving, storage control and material handling processes.

Has additional responsibility in taking the lead in assisting with any issues that arise within the team.

Essential Functions:

  • Supporting the manufacture of Cell Culture Media for use in the biotech industry that is scientific in nature by following established protocols and instructions.
  • Ensure compliance and expected levels of productivity are achieved within the team by reviewing and updating established protocols, tasks and activities when required
  • Liaise with support functions within operations to trouble shoot processes, procedures and product issues.
  • Balance multiple tasks and prioritize critical tasks
    Must have a strong solid understanding of ERP systems and Microsoft office suite
  • Operate and carry out basic safety checks on mechanical equipment i.e. Reach, Counterbalance & various other powered forklift trucks
  • Assist in the development of detailed training packs and competency tests for your area of work.
  • Take the lead in cost improvement initiatives by reducing failures and improving capacity.
  • Help coach team mates on expected behaviors and be involved in training of new employees.
  • Work within Health and Safety guidelines and take the lead to ensure team are also meeting expectations. Make sure all Risk assessments are relevant and up to date and ensure near mis: reporting is part of the culture within the team.
  • Ensure 5S standards are introduced and maintained to enable certification within the work area
  • Demonstrate a good work ethic and professional manner at all times.
  • Crafting impactful & flexible work teams
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and help motivate colleagues with a can-do attitude.
  • Manufacturing representative for internal audits of department and may be required to interact with customers during external audits of manufacturing.
  • Present daily/weekly team meetings within departments and ensure effective communication between shifts.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

Education:

Must possess a National 5 grade B or better in Math's and English and in at least one Science based subject. Relevant manufacturing experience will be considered as a suitable alternative.

Experience:

Experience in a similar industry is needed with at proven track record spent working in a high efficiency manufacturing environment. Individual must show a passion for this type of work and this industry and must be driven to continuously improve and fully engage in any initiatives that the team undertakes to make things better.

Contacts:

Has contact with all Cell Culture employees. Will collaborate closely with all other departments on matters relating to quality and service in order to uphold the Company's dedication to Customer happiness. This involves working with people at all levels within the organisation as well as external customers and regulatory bodies.

Working Conditions:

Works in a manufacturing environment. Is required to lift up to 40 lbs. May be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties. Must be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials. Required to work in a warehouse environment under various temperatures including room temperature, 2-8 cold room and -15 to -20. Maybe requested to work overtime.
