Hours: 8am-5pm
Position Summary: Laboratory Technician performs compound processing tasks and quality auditing in the lab such as: supporting the weighing of shipping lists, processing of new compounds & returns, and performing inventory procedures. Additionally, Laboratory Technician will support plate creation processes, shipment fulfillment, maintaining the laboratory clean, and document disposal of hazardous and/or chemical wastes.
Key responsibilities
- Fulfill shipping lists daily, including retrieving and weighing samples from compound stock containers, completing lists on the local order processing system, labeling samples, and forwarding completed lists for shipment; perform initial quality audits for shipping lists.
- Set up supplies/materials for plate replication procedures; run automated plate replication equipment.
- Perform inventory procedures on incoming compounds as well as those stored at the repository; this includes weighing, data entry, labeling, and shelving samples.
- Use inventory management system to perform simple queries, basic updates, generation of labels, and printing shipping lists and reports.
- Perform shipment of compounds and plates.
- Maintain laboratory and compound storage areas clean and organized.
- Recognize and segregate hazardous substances for storage or disposal and assist with labeling of hazardous and chemical waste for disposal.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and facility safety guidelines. This includes performing initial quality assurance checks on all procedures they perform; Provide input to potential changes in SOPs when noting deficiencies in existing procedures.
- Participate in process improvement activities.
Knowledge/Skills
- Communicate clearly verbally and in written form.
- Prepare reports using Excel and know how to operate Windows and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Take part in minor chemical spill clean-up efforts to include use of full-face respirator.
- Acquire and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Demonstrate strong logic and problem-solving skills.

Education/Experience:
- HIgh School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of relevant experience is required; OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related scientific field and no experience.
Environment:
Chemical warehouse environment has strong odor. May need to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, hazardous materials, and marked changes in temperature, including inside walk-in freezers/refrigerators. Use platform ladders to access compounds. Wear personal protective equipment, including wearing nitrile gloves for several hours. Lifting and carry up to 50 lbs. Work standing and using a computer for multiple hours per day. Wearing a full-face respirator for 2 hours at a time.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $20.51-$30.76.
