How will you make an impact?

The Information Technology Global Operations team at Thermo Fisher is a diverse and globally distributed team that is using innovative Cloud and IoT technologies to build solutions for our Manufacturing Operations business partners. We support thousands of systems and hundreds of applications worldwide, and we constantly seek to drive greater integration across platforms, harnessing a core suite of applications around the globe to drive business growth and enable process optimization.

This position is a technical leadership role that will lead the IoT development team while working with key business and IT leaders to drive the development of the IoT vision and technical strategy. They will be a hands-on technology and architecture leader with broad knowledge of systems, services, software architectural concepts and systems integration patterns. You will support the development and maintenance of IoT solutions within our IT Global Operations team.

What will you do?

  • Collaborate with IT leaders, program/project managers, and business leaders to define and execute on IoT technical strategy and roadmap
  • Lead the IT development team and partner as an IT Architect with manufacturing OT and engineers in the implementation of IoT solutions
  • Document & review business functional/nonfunctional requirements and propose IoT solution architectures with detailed specifications
  • Accountable for application architecture efficiency, stability, scalability
  • Define and drive adoption of development frameworks, patterns and standards
  • Build proficiency with portfolio of manufacturing systems, technologies, services and data standards to improve and/or integrate with them
  • Conduct technical assessments and proofs of concepts development for IoT solutions and Digital Performance Management applications
  • Conduct hands-on system debugging as needed

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Experience:

  • 5+ years of proven experience in system architecture and development with demonstrated ability in developing use cases, architecture epics, data modeling and service oriented architecture
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building web-, cloud-based, and microservice-architected applications
  • Solid experience partnering with OT professionals to implement industrial automation and/or IoT solutions for data contextualization as an IT Architect or Engineer
  • Experience with IoT Edge applications as an IT Architect
  • Good understanding of industry standards for connectivity such as OPC UA, and the evaluation and application of standards in solution development
  • Experience with a formal software development methodology such as Agile/Scrum
  • Ability to work with geographically distributed teams
  • Experience driving architecture initiatives by influencing different organizations
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic goals with short-term implementation needs of the business

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cloud architecture using AWS; certification is a plus
  • Experience with asset modeling applications for OEE and/or OLE use cases (e.g. PTC Thingworx, RedZone, etc.)
  • Experience in designing, developing, and supporting software solutions in the Manufacturing domain
  • Experience with microservices, REST APIs, web services
  • Life Science industry background is a plus

  • Demonstrates a high level of initiative, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability
  • Must be self-confident and self-motivated
  • Bias towards action and experimentation, very hands-on
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with internal customers and all levels of management in a non-technical manner
  • Good business sense and ability to organize and disseminate information efficiently to gain consensus and set expectations

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $143,000.00-$214,475.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
