Phadia is the leading supplier of fully automatic blood analysis systems for allergy and auto-immune diseases. Phadia GmbH in Freiburg is the German subsidiary of the Immunodiagnostics division of Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global company that develops, manufactures and distributes in vitro diagnostics in the field of allergy and autoimmune diagnostics. Position Overview:
In Global Medical and Scientific Affairs (MSA) we provide medical and scientific leadership to the ImmunoDiagnostics Division (IDD). The Global Director (m/f/d) will lead the Autoimmunity MSA Team and its activities performed within IDD. By providing a comprehensive testing menu, we aid in the diagnosis of autoimmunity diseases to patients around the world. We will continue to expand our reach by supporting clinical studies, generating evidence, and educating health care providers, laboratories and patients as we build enhance our leadership in autoimmunity. Our fifty autoimmunity assays are found in laboratories worldwide with a revenue of over $200 million.

A Day in the Life:
  • Medical, Scientific and Clinical Strategies:
    • Develops a robust strategy to expand on our current success and become a top autoimmune diagnostic assay organization
    • Leads publication oversight globally to strengthen IDD products performance and medical relevance within the autoimmunity community
    • Build on your knowledge of the autoimmunity medical field to sustain and apply expertise in relevant disease states leading to new diagnostic tests and products
  • Medical expertise:
    • Provides medical and clinical expertise to internal (marketing, commercial, regulatory affairs, R&D, and legal) and external (healthcare professionals, patients, laboratories, advocacy groups, etc.) customers
    • Informs internal teams on disease state paradigm changes, global standard of care diagnostics algorithms, competitive intelligence, and key opinion leader views and opinions as it pertains to IDD and competitor products
    • Attend and actively participates in medical programs at congresses and company-sponsored symposia
    • Proactively works to maintain and develop a high level of engagement with global autoimmunity key opinion leaders, physician assay users, laboratories, and patient advocacy groups
    • Reviews and approves, in collaboration with global business partners, advertising, promotional, as well as scientific and educational materials
  • Management:
    • Ensure that MSA resources such as consultants' meetings, advisory board meetings, medical conventions, and medical societies are translated into materials for internal partners
    • Effectively and quickly develop successful relationships and partner with cross-functional team members
    • Build-out the global autoimmunity medical affairs team supporting assay pre- and post- launch activities

Keys to Success:

Education
  • An advanced degree (MD or MD/PhD) is required
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
  • A demonstrated ability in the diagnostics or medical device industry (including consultancy and academia) of many years
  • Demonstrated ability to be effective in a highly matrixed global environment
  • Relationship architect; able to build a strong network of influential supporters
  • Must be a standout colleague with strong negotiation, problem-solving and strategic influencing skills
  • Requires the ability to effectively articulate highly technical/complex scientific data and concepts to audiences with differing scientific and medical knowledge
  • Must have confirmed ability to perform successfully under tight timelines and with changing and contending priorities
  • Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:
    • Previous work in clinical diagnostics laboratory is strongly preferred
    • Previous professional medical experience in which you manage autoimmune patients (e.g. rheumatology) is strongly preferred
