How will you make an impact:

Perform preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance repairs related to the facility care of the building.

Shift schedule: 8 hours, Monday - Friday - days and afternoons

What will you do:

  • Perform general building maintenance to ensure the facility remains in an excellent state of repair, addressing any issues independently when possible.
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance on fire extinguishers, doors, eye wash stations, and kitchen equipment, ensuring functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Attempt to independently repair and resolve facility issues such as leaks, faulty faucets, and equipment malfunctions. If unable to repair, arrange and oversee contractor involvement to minimize disruptions.
  • Liaise with production staff to conduct fit and finish assessments of the operations, addressing any maintenance needs that arise to support smooth operations.
  • Perform corrective maintenance within operations and throughout the building to maintain a state of GMP readiness, prioritizing internal solutions before seeking external support.
  • Work proactively to resolve building leaks and other structural issues; coordinate contractors only after exhausting internal repair capabilities. Address faucet and plumbing issues as a first response, scheduling contractors only when necessary and ensuring repairs are completed efficiently.
  • Collaborate with the team leader and supervisor to ensure adequate supplies of materials for routine facility care and unexpected repairs.
  • Provide regular updates to the team leader and supervisor on completed repairs, ongoing maintenance, and any external contractor involvement.
  • Participate in daily team huddles to align maintenance priorities and ensure a smooth, collaborative workflow.
  • Pick up critical supplies from stores as needed on an emergency basis to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operations.
  • Work with the team leader to establish and maintain a reliable inventory of critical supplies to reduce response times for maintenance needs.
  • Identify and report deficiencies in the preventive maintenance program, taking ownership of addressing and resolving facility care issues.
  • Communicate safety concerns promptly to the team leader and supervisor, ensuring all necessary precautions are taken to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, reporting any potential hazards and ensuring compliance with all safety protocols.
  • Perform alternating or rotating shift work as well as requirement to work during maintenance shutdowns.

How will get here:

Education:

High school diploma/General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required.

Preferably a facility technician with a 403A license.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of previous building maintenance experience in a controlled and regulated environment.

Experience using of special paints/coating systems such as epoxy resins for touch-up of walls, equipment etc.

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiar with GMPs, GAMP4/5 and 21 CFR part 11. Superior written and oral skills. Detail-oriented and organized, with a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness. Superior writing skills as well as strong accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication and organizational skills. Strong judgment, decision making and troubleshooting skills. Ability to multi-task, meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficient with the English language.

Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures. Work collaboratively with fellow team members, modelling positive team principles and partnering to meet project and departmental objectives. Carry out all duties within strict compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific quality systems Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Effectively engage in and adhere to departmental systems to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be client and patient-conscious at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Model positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about manufacturing/office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of up to 40 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity; visual acuity to operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time. Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, loud noise, bright lights, fumes or odour. Use of Personal Protective equipment is required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator.
