Group/Division Summary

Our PPD® Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought-leaders and therapeutic experts. Position Summary

The Director will have oversight to the Immunochemistry Research & Development department across multiple sites in Richmond, VA and future expansion in other regions. This is a large-scale Bioanalytical operation in a fast-paced CRO environment. The role is key to supporting our business goals by driving transformation through collaboration and innovation. This individual will utilize strong change management and leadership skills to improve operational processes and efficiencies in a regulated laboratory environment while integrating business development, research & development and quality assurance functions for optimal performance within the labs. The Director will contribute to the scientific strategy and implementation to support pharmaceutical-sponsored research protocols. This leader will have a high visibility role as an industry leader in the bioanalytical laboratory field.

The Director will lead the continuing and rapid growth of specific laboratory operations incorporated into the Bioanalytical operation, by operational execution of a strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a scientific expert and the primary laboratory interface with sponsors and clinical investigators.
  • Performs financial analyses to improve cost efficiency of laboratory operations.
  • Manages and controls budgets for cost expense reduction. Provides business updates to senior leadership.
  • Sets operational standards/goals and directs the implementation of laboratory goals and policies. Oversees resource allocation including space, capital equipment and scientific instrumentation.
  • Identifies resource needs to ensure the laboratory is staffed with qualified personnel.
  • Defines, implements and monitors standards of performance in quality control and quality assurance. Ensures consistent harmonization of assays across laboratories.

Education and Experience:

B.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) in Biological Sciences. Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 12+ years) or equivalent and relevant combination of education, training, & experience. 5+ years of management responsibility.
