Job Description

The Director, Pharma Development Services (PDS) is the primary site representative for this business. The person in this role is responsible for the defining the overall strategy for PDS, building the business and delivering exception PDS services to our customers. The Director, PDS drives the strategic vision as it relates to the local operation in Cincinnati, partners cross functionally to implement the vision and participates as a member of the site leadership team.

Provides leadership to assigned staff by performing the following: leading organizational change; developing and empowering staff; encouraging relationships; putting staff in a position to succeed, meeting their personal career goals while also achieving organizational goals; building effective teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals; driving engagement and creating a climate where staff are motivated to do their best.

  • Helps set strategic business direction for PDS business in collaboration with site and Company leadership.
  • Manages and partners with site leadership to deliver signed work to customers with the highest degree of quality, on-time delivery, and customer satisfaction.
  • Actively expands projects and grows share of wallet with existing customers.
  • Leads operational efficiency initiatives and leads change throughout the site.
  • Actively supports sales in bringing new clients to the site; and can speak persuasively to our end-to-end capabilities both within the site and more broadly across the Company.
  • Plans and uses available resources efficiently in order to achieve business objectives.
  • Advises the establishment of robust quality systems to support the analytical, formulation, manufacturing and business activities within PDS.
  • Maintains state of readiness for, and actively participates in client and regulatory audits. Forecasts and proactively maintains departmental budgets.
  • Reviews project performance, identifies issues and areas for improvement, and aligns with all corporate and site Quality and EH&S standards
  • Leadership of site technical teams to implement change, understand consequences and obtain commitment through coaching, training, and clear objective setting to meet the site's short term needs and long term ambition. Develop department members to be key leaders within the organization.
  • Builds and sustains employee engagement by creating a culture of efficient execution and an environment in which individuals and teams can excel and continuously improve.
  • Builds pipeline of future talent to enable growth; and retain top talent on behalf of Thermo Fisher Scientific.
  • Selects, develops and evaluates staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Works with and advises staff on administrative policies and procedures.

How will you get here?

  • Education Bachelors of Science degree in a hard science concentration preferred (such as Chemistry, Pharmaceutics Science, or Chemical Engineering). Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical development preferred; 10+ years management experience; 2+ years production experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Direct or indirect commercial experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a heavily matrixed environment
  • Experience evaluating and understanding new development and formulation technologies Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to encourage and champion innovation, collaboration, clarity and team efficiency.
  • Strong business management knowledge and experience
  • Ability to operate in high intensity environment
  • Shown manager and developer of talent
  • Understanding of the development processes and associated Regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent social skills used to work and connect with staff at all levels and to interactive positively/sensitively with our clients.
  • Decision maker who drives initiatives to completion
