Job Description

The Mission

In this role you will expand the Design to Cost program within the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD), in the US sites. You will be an ambassador in our organization and lead initiatives to increase the value of our products in the most cost-effective way.

The Position

In this position you will collaborate with various parts of the organization (R&D, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Engineering, Product Marketing, Procurement, Operations, Service and Finance) to find opportunities and implement design changes that deliver cost improvement. The position is based in US and reports into the Operations Strategy Deployment organization in MSD Operations.

What will you do?

  • Management Process and to develop and grow this capability and knowledge in the organization.
  • Maintain a funnel and pipeline of Value Engineering activities in line with the saving targets and budget/resources.
  • Organize multi-functional, cross-site Value Engineering Workshops to identify and scope cost improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Engineering, R&D, Service, Sourcing, Finance) for budget and resource planning of activities. Organize regular reviews to align on planning, progress and closure of projects.
  • Drive some of the strategic multi-functional and cross-site projects as a project leader and use processes, tools, and other related resources to ensure effective team dynamics and decision-making, as well as effective interactions with all internal and external collaborators.
  • Proactively identifies issues, concerns, or challenges. Facilitate tradeoff decisions and remove obstacles, bringing issues up to key sponsors when necessary.

How will you get here?

Education

University degree in a technical field or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.

Experience

  • Typically requires 10+ years of technical experience in high-tech industry environment.
  • Program and project management in high tech manufacturing or Research and Development.
  • Experience with Value Engineering and/or Design for Six Sigma.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrates leadership and ability to scope and lead complicated projects from inception to completion. Persistence to overcome project obstacles.
  • Business and Financial Acuity: Understands product cost structure, Cost of Ownership and is experienced in crafting Business Cases.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of design and new product development principles.
  • Demonstrates awareness of manufacturing, service, factory and supply chain processes.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication: is able to create and deliver presentations appropriately scaled to the audience. Confident at interacting with senior management.
  • Excellent ability to develop authentic relationships with business partners.
  • Able to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining collaboration of multi-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites without damaging relationships.
  • Strong negotiation skills and consistent track record of driving decisions and discussions. Able to work across language and cultural barriers.
  • Ability to persuade, inspire and empower others.
