Job Description
Position Summary:
As a buyer at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., you will have the opportunity to oversee a range of products and suppliers across Europe. Your role will play part in enhancing customer satisfaction and service levels, while also optimizing inventory. By working closely with suppliers and other key individuals, you will ensure efficient delivery performance, enhance inventory quality, and successfully introduce new processes to optimize time management.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement new processes, as well as refine existing processes, to optimize time management and enhance efficiency.
- Identify issues, analyze data, and suggest accurate solutions. Document and inform senior buyers about solutions when required.
- Ensure service level targets such as fill rate and availability are consistently met.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of company metrics and their impact on overall results.
- Effectively manage all aspects of purchasing and associated operations for inventory management.
- Build strong connections with suppliers and key individuals within the organization.
- Track shipments of purchase orders and take necessary actions in case of unusual delays.
- Manage the data flow throughout each stage of a purchase order, providing updates and ensuring timely dispatch.
- Review and improve delivery times to prevent shortages and predictive stock-outs.
- Embrace and actively participate in PPI initiatives to identify improvements and cost savings. Make recommendations for process improvements.
- Collaborate with different warehouses to manage delivery issues from suppliers.
- Contribute to the accuracy of data in the system by raising tickets when necessary.
- Maintain a high level of internal customer service, supporting customer services and other business functions as needed.
- Drive improved supplier performance through the use of metrics. Conduct weekly calls with suppliers to review performance and initiate/manage improvement plans.
- Independently manage supplier relationships, including negotiation skills and performance reviews.
- Proactively contribute to improving the supplier performance report.
- Participate in the training of new team members.

Requirements/Qualifications/Competencies:
- Knowledge and experience of purchasing and inventory management in a distribution environment.
- Good knowledge in inventory management systems and methods.
- Excellent analytical skills, with intermediate/advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in supplier negotiation to influence supplier performance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working independently and effectively as a team.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to multitask, and attention to detail.
- Ability to process and analyze large volumes of data quickly and accurately, make sound decisions based on facts, and draw conclusions.
- Shows initiative and ownership of initiatives, driving execution independently.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to manage workload within various constraints.
- Strong desire to serve the customer.
- Bilingual in English.
