We have a vacancy in Operations for a Biotech Portfolio Lead in our PPD Biotech team covering the European region. (note this is a Sr Director level role)

As a Biotech Portfolio Lead (BPL) you will provide consultation and strategic direction across PPD's (Clinical Research Group /CRG) therapeutic units and other divisions, as well as broader within the Thermo Fisher organization, to ensure customised clients' solutions, operational excellence, consistency, quality and innovation, resulting in new programs, partnerships and repeat business in the Biotech portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the voice of the client within PPD and serves as the customers' executive single point of contact, and escalation support person for all operational issues/discussions. Communicates with sponsors regularly to identify potential challenge areas and acts quickly to remove the risk/resolve the issue
  • Establish superior working relationships with key individuals within client companies for awarding projects and managing project delivery to facilitate program/project awards
  • Set-up and participates at Governance level and contributes to the compilation of goals and business plan objectives for the strategic partnership
  • Leverages relationships and knowledge to enhance the PPD offering to ensure high quality project delivery, maximise client satisfaction, minimise the potential impact of issues which may arise and increase the chance of repeat business
  • Provides ongoing consultancy, coaching and feedback to colleagues involved in delivering projects and services on behalf biotech clients to improve the overall understanding of the client and ability to deliver to the expectations of the customers
  • Partners globally and regionally with Business Development, Project Delivery, Medical division and other departments to develop new business
  • Collaborates closely with the Commercial organization by actively participating on business development activities to meet sales targets
  • Meets and fosters prospective and current customers' relationships, provides strategic input and oversight in requests for proposals (RFPs) and bid defence meetings (BDMs), and represents PPD Biotech at appropriate professional meetings and conferences
  • Develops excellent working relationships with PPD Biotech leadership team and other senior, therapeutic units, geography and functional lead colleagues to ensure co-ordination across geographies, enable oversight of operational performance, resourcing, financial health/strategy, business planning and execution to achieve superior delivery of PPD projects and services
  • In a matrix environment provides strategic direction and leadership across therapeutic units and multiple functional areas to ensure customized delivery for Biotech clients
  • Works with cross functional leadership on the continuous development and improvement of business processes to support teams and to ensure that work is uniform, complete and delivered appropriately.
  • Utilises PPD systems, tools and reports to identify trends in risks and/or issues that present opportunities to leverage PPD Biotech team influence and expertise

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor Science degree, advanced degree in Life Sciences (PhD / MSc /MD) preferred
  • Demonstrated track record across drug development's life cycle that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position (min. 15+ years).
  • Preferable current / recent experience working within Biotech / Small-Mid Size Pharma companies
  • Broad experience including Clinical Operations, Project Management, Business Development, CRO budgeting & management

  • Excellent judgement and decision-making competencies with ability to apply critical and analytical thinking skills and manage complex/ambiguous situations

  • A strong client and internal relationship builder in a matrixed organization
  • Ability to build quickly a strong network of influential people
  • Expert knowledge of project management principles and application
  • Expert knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and resource management (Phase 2-4)
  • Robust negotiation & problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively across geographies and cultures
  • Skilled in process improvement
  • Strong planning skills and strategic thinking
  • Knowledge of Regulatory guidelines and Directives
  • Fluent in English
