Job Description

Our organization is currently seeking an Associate Director of Language Services to join our growing team, focused on Account Management and revenue growth!

The Associate Director of Language Services will play a crucial role in advancing translation services support for the broader PPD organization and our clients with a full array of language solutions. Every year, we deliver over 70,000 translation jobs to support clinical trials, post-approval drug and device safety, commercialization, Medical Communications, legal and marketing efforts, and more.

This position will focus on strategically driving new business opportunities, building existing customer relationships, acquiring new customers and partnerships, in order to meet or exceed revenue targets. As a member of the Leadership Team, will also guide strategies to use the latest technologies for localization and leading an all-star team of driven professionals as this department continues to grow.

The ideal candidate will have 10-12+ years of experience in the translation/localization space, with a track record of success in customer relationship building within the life sciences/CRO sector.

Summarized Purpose:

Manages the operations and resources of a large, global team by leading and managing part of language services. Focuses on optimizing performance, processes, behaviors and decision making in order to achieve departmental business goals and objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates, innovates and consults with senior leadership to identify and define metrics that drive strategy, performance and efficiency for business.
  • Provides leadership or oversight with subject matter expertise, and ensures development and deployment of solutions that achieve business needs and objectives. • Manages team by accounting for work assignments, staff development, resource planning and accountability, performance management and skill gap analysis.
  • Leads, manages, and empowers through effective delegation to attain high performance and delivery for managers, team(s) and all participants. • Directs the delivery of solutions in a collaborative cross functional global environment.
  • Acts as a liaison between the team and business leadership. Provides progressive updates and aligns the team with the overall business objectives of the department and company.
  • Contributes to overall department strategy, implementation and operations.
  • Assists in the annual budget development process.
  • Interprets, administers, trains and coaches compliance with policies, processes, and procedures for the team.
  • Manages staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations. Approves courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations. Reviews and approves time records, expense reports, requests for leave, and overtime.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years). 2+ years of management responsibility In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 5+ years of localization experience, preferably in life sciences
  • Proven management experience in language services or related field including TM/MT/CAT tools technology
  • Advanced leadership abilities and skills to include leading organizational change • Excellent people management and interpersonal skills including the ability to coach, mentor and develop staff
  • Advanced ability to understand individual staff capabilities and to assign work appropriately
  • Excellent executive presence and ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Close attention to detail to deliver concise and accurate requirements-based products and services
  • Advanced ability to exercise independent judgement and decision making
  • In-depth knowledge of fiscal management to include budgeting and forecasting • Demonstrated skills with meeting facilitation and presentation

Management Role:

Manager role with significantly larger management scope (e.g. global or regional responsibilities or multiple departments) OR mastery of manager skills and responsibilities as demonstrated by consistent, multi-year successful performance. In some instances may be responsible for a functional area (as determined by executive management) and not have subordinate supervisors or employees.
