Position Summary:

Thermo Fisher Scientific has an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and driven qualified Financial Accountant to join the Global Business Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a progressive centre of excellence in an organisation considered a global leader in its field.

The position is in the Record to Report (RtR) team of our Global Business Services (GBS) Shared Service Centre. The team coordinates financial controllership in the region for four Thermo Fisher Scientific groups: Clinical Research Group (CRG), Life Sciences and Laboratory Products Group (LSLPG), Special Diagnostics Group (SDG), and Analytical Instruments Group (AIG). We lead all aspects of financial reporting for numerous entities with $10 Billion of annual revenue.

As the chosen candidate, you will be responsible for leading the financial records of various legal entities in accordance with US GAAP. Working closely with the Accounting Operations team, you will ensure the accuracy and timely completion of financial close activities. It is critical that you are a knowledgeable leader within the Record to Report team, able to investigate and solve accounting problems. Strong communication, mentoring, and organizational skills are crucial for this role. You must be self-motivated, diligent, and capable of prioritizing and following through in a fast-paced corporate environment. You will also serve as the primary contact for our internal partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the US GAAP end to end financials across a number of EMEA legal entities
  • Analyse profit and loss account and balance sheet trends and variances
  • Perform review and approval activities at month end, including high risk journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review general ledger activity, researching and correcting account discrepancies
  • Perform detailed analysis of balance sheets and communicate findings to collaborators
  • Primary point of contact for internal collaborators
  • Coordinate the timeliness of financial reporting for the EMEA region
  • Collaborate with team members to conduct monthly business reviews
  • Proactively participate in PPI (Practical Process Improvement) initiatives, including Gemba Walks, Just Do Its, Kaizen events, and daily Tier management
  • Complete a variety of special projects as and when requested

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant (CA, CIMA or ACCA)
  • Skilled at coordinating and prioritising multiple complex situations
  • Accuracy is required in performing all aspects of the role
  • High level of proactivity to drive continuous improvement
  • Deep technical accounting expertise
  • Strong investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Skilled in effectively communicating and presenting to a diverse range of collaborators
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP (Desired but not crucial)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact at various levels inside and outside the organisation
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Working knowledge of ERPs (Desired but not essential)
