As a Senior Accountant you will perform advanced and specialized accountingactivities to ensure that the organization compiles with relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements, and presents a complete and accurate statement of its financial position. Summarized Purpose: Responsible for all activities related to project accounting. Ensures organizational adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements. Ensures timely preparation and review of all regulatory filings. Provides work leadership and direction to other accountants. This position will be assisting with project accounting in the GMP Labs within the Analytical Services Division (ASD). Essential Functions: - Responsible for monitoring and reconciling our unbilled and contract liability balances and all aspects of project accounting. - Processes and reconciles the revenue events through the various systems and reconciles for completeness. - Performs close activities and preparation of month-end, quarterly, and year-end financial statements as needed. - Pivot to priority projects such as validation of our cross-BU balance verifications while reconciling intercompany balances and enhancing our unbilled and contract liability processes. - Revenue and unbilled reporting to service statutory and group reporting schedules and applicable reconciliations. - Identifies risk exposure and recommends corrective action to management. - Monitors process controls to ensure compliance with SOX including internal controls. - Prepares consolidated project unbilled/deferred balances impacting balance sheet and ensure they reconcile. - Prepare and process revenue for final project review to inform revenue load processes. - Completes special projects as directed and monitors any balance sheet accruals needed. - Demonstrates the ability to prepare journal entries; maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts that are adequately supported and documented. Consistently perform these tasks timely and within a specified closing schedule. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years). In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Proficiency in problem solving and prioritizing - Work effectively with all levels of employees - Knowledge of approved accounting practices including financial statement information and preparation of financial reports and statistics - Strong analytical and quantitative skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Excellent communication skills both written and verbal - Excellent interpersonal skills - Ability to multi-task and handle pressure Working Environment: PPD, part of Thermo Fisher values the health and wellbeing of our employees.
