About the Role

As a reporting Department to the Chief Financial Officer, the Comptroller's Department is a team of dedicated professionals who ensure the accuracy of the Port Authority's finances.   • Oversee and approve the preparation of annual federal and state tax filings, and coordinate year-end planning functions, including annual notices and distributions, to cultivate the production of the agency's vehicle usage, W2 and 1099R reporting.
  • Oversees the testing and implementation of PeopleSoft tax updates and modifications to improve system functionality to identify productivity and process improvements that include time and labor, retroactive payments and the calculation and confirmation of the payroll cycles.
  • Develop and maintain Excel calculation models to streamline accurate and timely weekly processing of tax withholdings and payments, including oversight of staff, and approval for tax filings and GL control for processing monthly JV's and the posting of labor detail from PeopleSoft to SAP for PA and PATH.
  • Research and identify evolving federal, state and local tax legislation that will affect PA and PATH withholding and reporting requirements, including conducting accounting research and white papers associated with new tax legislation and proposed business transactions.
  • Supervise the process for reporting to the New York State Employees Retirement System, including the analysis and reconciliation of employee contributions and payments.
  • Complete special assignments and support staff with GL control and timekeeping responsibilities.
  • Document and streamline existing business processes.
  • Ensure complex and/or sensitive data is compiled, documented and presented in a clear and concise manner.

Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or Corporate Finance from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • In lieu of a bachelor's degree a minimum 7 years of relevant work experience can be accepted.

Desired

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Master's degree in accounting, Finance or Business from an accredited college or university and/or a CPA is preferred.
  • Prior management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments, meet deadlines, work independently, prioritize work and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills with a strong understanding of accounting and tax.
  • Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal staff at all levels and external business partners.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft and SAP.
