About the Internship
This position offers the opportunity to be part of the Transportation Planning team in the Tunnels, Bridges, and Terminals (TB&T) department. This internship will involve tracking activity and customer satisfaction at TB&T facilities, analyzing trends, identifying challenges, and researching short- and long-term improvements for TB&T facilities. The Tunnels, Bridges, and Terminals department (TB&T) is the division of Port Authority that operates and maintains the George Washington Bridge, the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels, the Bayonne and Goethals Bridges, the Outerbridge Crossing, and the Midtown Bus Terminal and the George Washington Bridge Bus Station. The Transportation and Revenue Programs Unit manages transportation planning, data analysis, and non-toll revenue programs within TB&T.

Responsibilities
- Assist with transportation planning tasks for the TB&T department.
- Analyze traffic patterns at TB&T crossings, help to understand usage of the Port Authority Midtown Bus Terminal, and research usage of our pedestrian and bicycle pathways.
- Organize, conduct, and analyze a survey of users the three bicycle and pedestrian pathways on TB&T crossings.
- Assist with research regarding solar energy to help TB&T make progress toward its net zero sustainability goals through the installation of solar panels at TB&T properties.
- Assist with research regarding connected and autonomous vehicle technology, and the implications of that technology on TB&T's facility operations
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college/university through Summer 2025 and into the Fall 2025 semester
- Major in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Systems Engineering, Transportation Planning, Transportation Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
- Interest in public service and transportation
- Willingness to learn
Internship Details
- The start date will be Thursday, May 29, 2025
- The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 22, 2025
- This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
- The format is expected to be hybrid (3 days in-person and 2 remote days each week)

Compensation & Benefits
- The hourly rate range is $17.63 to $29.57 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
