About the Internship:
The Port Department manages and oversees operations at the Port Authority's port facilities, including auto, dry and liquid bulk cargo, container, cruise, warehousing, intermodal freight movement, heavy lift, and marine support services. The Operations team within the Port Department at New Jersey Marine Terminals (NJMT), is seeking an Operations Intern to join their team! We are seeking a motivated, self-starter that is interested in learning more about port operations and supporting the largest port on the East Coast.
Responsibilities
- Support the Operations Manager on day-to-day activities and facility needs
- Assist Port Operations Supervisor with the research and development of a Hazardous Materials Guidance
- Assist Port Operations Supervisor in the standardization of all NJMT's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Update, standardize, and archive shared folders
- Assist Senior Marine Terminal Operations Representatives with coordinating Fire Protection-Life Safety (FPLS) inspections, assessing evacuation plans, and inspection safety equipment
- Collaborate with Physical Plant intern and NJMT staff on the development and execution of the Hurricane and Severe Weather Drill/Exercise
- Attend and assist with meetings and inspections for facility projects, events, and emergencies
- Present a report on the status of projects and other work that was completed during the internship

Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college/university through Summer 2025 and into the Fall 2025 semester
Desired Qualifications

- Willing to learn
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Interest in transportation and public service
- Knowledge and/or experience with: computer aided design and modeling software; Microsoft Office; construction management and scheduling software; and design and construction codes and standards
- Strong interpersonal skills, including interacting with senior-level management
Internship Details
- The start date will be Thursday, May 29, 2025
- The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 22, 2025
- This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
- The format is expected to be in-person

Compensation & Benefits
- The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $27.89 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
