The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey

Summer Intern, Innovation

New York, NY

Description

About the Internship

The Port Authority promotes the vitality of the region through world-class transportation by air, land, rail, and sea. Throughout its history, the Port Authority has promoted a vision of an economically integrated metropolitan area supported by a robust, multi-modal transportation linkages between the states and gateways for trade and commerce.

The Innovation Unit of the Planning Department is tasked with ideating, funding, and executing innovative pilot projects that will improve the agency's business today and tomorrow. The purpose of these pilots is each to test a prescribed hypothesis such as "how many people can this autonomous vehicle system transport" or "can we replace boat inspections with drone flights?" Each pilot is ideated and shaped together with subject matter experts, pitched to executives for funding, and then executed and reported on. The Innovation Intern will help facilitate this process and get to develop a pilot project of their own!
