About the Internship:
The first Hudson River vehicular tunnel was opened in 1927. It was considered an outstanding engineering achievement, whose principles are employed to this day. The Holland Tunnel was designated a National Historic Civil and Mechanical Engineering Landmark in 1984 by the American Society of Civil and Mechanical Engineers. In 1993, the tunnel was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of Interior.
Responsibilities
- Review drawings
- Assist with all tours of facility buildings
- Visit job sites.
- Attend meetings, prepare memoranda, gather information
- Assist the Physical Plant Manager and/or the Senior Business Manager with all ongoing and planned construction activity and/or Administrative Unit projects at the Holland Tunnel.
- Assist with overseeing and coordinating various Holland Tunnel Facility projects.
- Take notes for meetings
- Coordinate with other departments/units

Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college/university through Summer 2025 and into the Fall 2025 semester
- Major in Engineering
- Valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region.
- Interest in public service and/or transportation
- Willingness to learn
Internship Details
- The start date will be Thursday, May 29, 2025
- The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 22, 2025
- This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
- The format is expected to be fully in-person

Compensation & Benefits
- The hourly rate range is $17.63 to $29.57 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
